Handle on eBay?
« on: July 03, 2012, 02:39:34 AM »
UK seller thinks this metal CL handle may be of US origin?

Item number: 160833611224

Seller says in ad text, Vintage American?  metal control line handle by
"Super Motors Inc". Anyone know who "Super Motors Inc" is?

I have one of those, too. It was in my father's model airplane stuff. Handle seems to be aluminum. I imagine it was made somewhere in the northeast USA, late 40's or early 50's. Could be wrong about where it was made, he might have bought it at Polk's Hobbies in NYC.

ps. Remembered that I spotted one of these on a post here too. http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php?topic=16349.0

Your handle was manufactured by Super Motors Inc. in Cleveland, Ohio in 1945 & 1946. These are the same folks that made the Delong .30. The Delong was one of the ignition engines that was strong enough to run on glow fuel and not blow up. They were used as speed engines back in the late 1940's.

The handle is a hard point, and was supposedly made out of the same aluminum that the Delong crankcases, heads, and backplates were cast from. The majority of the early controline handles were hard points.
