Reading the post about 45 size airplanes and someone mentioning flying in front of Bob Palmer at Brodaks one year can't compare to when at VSC a person volunteered to help me with a flight.  It was the one and only Jack Sheeks and I was flying the Staggerwing Beech.   I still don't know how I got that engine to start so quick.  I was so excited that when I landed and walked off the circle, someone(I beleive Jim Lee) asked me if I counted my inverted laps.  I could not remember if I did or not.  One of the judges did note on my score sheet I only did 3 laps inverted.  I didn't care as I was flying a design by one of my heroes.  Also it is still a great thrill to remember the times I got to meet and talk to all the other heroes/idols of my modeling endeavers.    DOC Holliday

Times like that ARE special to some of us, ain't they!  I spent quite a bit of time talking to Mr. Palmer at that get together before I flew that flight.  

I was the same way when I met another Mr. Palmer, Arnold that is, when he gave me one of his own clubs while I was on his staff......... 

Jack Sheeks is an great guy to be around, and he's always fun!

ahhh yes! Great to hear you are also one of Arnies Army. A bunch of us met Arnold...at the Museum of Flight  when it first opened...when we bugged out of the wind tunnel for a lunch break at the newly opened Museum of Flight puke-n-upchuck eatery.  He flew some pretty fancy aircraft in those days....in those days. He was talking with the press that day...and my tunnel buddy golfin' buddy Ralph Henning had him sign an autograph on his golfing hat.

Hey Doc, Don McClave used to ask me how many loops in the stunt pattern. That's when I realized I only did two insides. This is typicaly known as a Brain Fart.This one is also a natural thing because of our age.

Makes me feel better now.  Just don't ask Jim Lee how meany times I have left something out of a pattern.   I think Fargo, ND a few years ago I really hunkered down and flew one the judges really liked.  DOC Holliday
