Tonight's "Dog Fights" on History Channel
« on: July 27, 2007, 12:01:32 PM »
Hi Guys,

One time, when I was in our winter condo in Florida, I was loading models into the back of the van, and a fellow that saw them, stopped and introduced himself.  His name was George Sutcliff, he lives in the same building, but his connection to aviation was somewhat different than mine.

Turns out, that George flew P47s in WWII, and survived some 80 missions.  We talked for a while, and then I asked him if he would be willing to come to a club dinner party and relate some of his experiences in the P47.

George, being the great chap that he is, quickly agreed and came to one of our dinner parties (Manatee County Radio Controllers, the RC club that I belong to in Florida) last year, and told several of his hair raising stories from WW II.

Last year, someone from the History Channel called George on the phone to talk about his World War II Air Force career.  As a result of the phone conversation, George was flown from Bradenton, Fl to a studio in California, where they taped his interview for inclusion in this series.

TONIGHT, at 9:00 pm, on the History Channel, George Sutcliff will be one of the pilots interviewed.  I'm assuming that some of his harrowing  exploits of his P-47 missions will be illustrated in the computer generated 'dog fights'.

We heard first hand some of the amazing stories that George has to tell about his missions over Germany.   Now we get to experience somewhat of what it would have been like to be there with George.

One story that I distinctly remember, was  of flying a mission, being over enemy territory when his oil tank was shot out, the engine seized, and he had to land a 5 TON airplane DEAD STICK, over unknown terrain.   Should be a great program.

Your broadcast time might be different....'check your local listings', as they say.

Sorry for the short notice, but now, you have less time to forget it !!  It's tonight   :)

Cheers,

Warren Wagner

p.s.  I will repeat this post on the other forum for the benefit of all.
