Would someone please explain what a tongue muffler is, advantages, disadvantages, etc?   Thanks    FRED

They are small flat blade style mufflers that the exhaust usually exits through a series of small diameter holes drilled in the lower face. Sort of like a muffler extension with the end closed off and holes drilled in it to allow the exhaust out.

They are usually lighter, more compact and easier to fit a cowling around. They can also be "tuned" to your application by changing the amount of backpressure through adding or plugging holes.

Thanks, I've seen them, but did not know what I was seeing.   Can they be used to pressurize a fuel tank?   Thanks,    FRED

They can be and are used for that purpose.  When you look at some of the many photos here take a gander at how the mufflers are rigged.
