Tommorrow it is !!! Ringmaster Fly-a-Thon Results update!
« on: September 30, 2011, 04:27:26 PM »
The FIRST weekend of October is hard upon us!!!

I repeat what I posted elsewhere!!

EVERYBODY who has access to a flyable Ringmaster needs to join us by flying on the 1st and/or 2nd of October.

Weather and miscellaneous other problems are interfering in some locals but most of us can put in some flights.

I have six electric Ringmasters that are good to go and will be flying in Burlington, IA where the weather is predicted to be PERFECT (Sunny, 65 degrees and 5 MPH winds).
This is supposed to be about promoting control line modeling and of course the lovable Ringmaster.

Don't forget to report your flights (etc) to;    ringmasterflyathon-2011@yahoo.com    not later than 12:00 noon EDT Tuesday Oct. 4th!!!

Just looked at the weather report, Saturday winds 10 to 15 Mph gusting up to 25 Mph. Sunday the same, no report on Monday yet but I am taking off work to take wife to the doctors. Maybe  this day could qualify?

Just got back from Topeka KANSAS.   Couldn't ask for better weather.   I think it made it up to the low 70's F.   Just enough breeze to now where it was at.  Sometimes it changed a little.  Melvin Schuette, Dwayne Robinson and Paul Willard were there already when I arrived.   Had to stop at the golden arches for coffee and breakfast burritos.  Bruce Reick, Dave Trible and Jim Lee showed up also.  40 flights total.  Made Jim and Dave fly my plane.  Bruce was flying one that was restored.  Claimed it was 35 years old. Dwayne and Paul flew Melvin's plane.   As usual one individual did not show.

Pic 1;  Bruce and Melvin:

Pic 2: Bruce and the old DOC

Pic's 3 & 4 Dave flying,  had to get the Ringmaster in one of them.

By coincidence, we had a NW Skyraiders Fun Fly scheduled for Oct. 1. Light mist part of the day, no real rain, slight breeze. Wake turbulence was the biggest problem, and excess submarine sammiches due to a low turnout.

Only two showed up with Ringmasters, and about 5 flights made with them, total. Not exact number. See the picture of Ben Jones' supply of 8 Rings, tho some had no engine or tank. One in the right front seat not showing in this shot. Ben builds really nice, too!  Ben had none that he would let me fly...

Gary Letsinger showed up with a new one (picture 2),  and had some problems. The tipweight box lid came off and shed the tipweight supply. A lot of level flight laps done with the outboard tip rather high, but only one flight. It has a B.25 for power.

We didn't really have any rain (really!), but had a little mist for awhile.  I took this picture of my "stealth stunter" in the pits...not a Ringmaster.  My "Eagle 7" was getting a little wet, so I picked it up and put it under the EZ-Up, which presented this photo op.   8) Steve

We had wind issues both days, but 2 regular members of the Tulip Arkansas "Ringslobs" and 3 guests[one a first time pilot and female] pilots made a total of 73 flights. We decided to fly full tanks instead of short tanking, and burned 1 whole gallon + 1 quart of fuel. I promised a flight report on the "Slobmaster" I built over 1 year ago and never flew. Well, I flew it 6 times and my other member flew it twice.....the report is: It took off like a rocket, flew like an eagle, and landed like a butterfly! I love it!  ;D H^^

Well I and the dogs made it home from day 2 at Topeka.  Had some new faces today.  Jim and Melvin got a young lad up on the trainer as well as a couple of others.  One Neal Baughman's son(in pic with Jim Lee), Thomas and Bruce's grandson, Dalton Babbit(the red head standing with Melvin).   Melvin also got his grand kids up on the Ringmaster.   Jordan is the young lady.  David alias Bubba in blue and Kyle in green.  Last pic is Melvin in the circle with the red headed Dalton.  If only I had a head of hair like that.

Ten people flew Ringmasters today and results will be sent to originator of this. H^^

Well, Steve Smith and I got at least 8 or 10 flights each on our Ringmasters today. Absolutely gorgeous weather here today. Steve had some prop testing he wanted to do, and I changed just about everything I could lay my hands on mine today and got it running and flying better. Just gotta love the Ringmaster! y1 Mine has a Brodak .25 on it but I'm going to do an old school Fox .35 powered version this winter.

The Burlington Model Airplane Club put up 76 flights!!! There were at least 27 different Ringmasters (I might have missed a couple).

A great time was had by all six fliers!!!

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

"The Brotherhood of the Ring", singlehandedly, has made just about everyone whoever flew a contol line plane know who Matt Kania was. About five or so years ago, not many did. "Matt who?" I feel it is a great service to the Kania family personally, and to control line world wide, that this has been accomplished.

Now, members of BHOTR have started a ball rolling that is heading downhill and picking up steam every year, the Ringmaster "Flyathon". It ain't the Nats or the Team Trials or the Worlds, but close to 1500 flights on Ringmasters alone were put up, (one guy I know flew 71 of them by himself) worldwide, and no negative aspects of any sort, just enjoyment and comraderie.

Not to mention the "Ringmaster Roundup"!

There's something happening here, "Jine, boys, jine!

Wow, I'm overwhelmed!! When I threw out a goal of 1500 flights for this year's Fly-A-Thon Richard Grogan, Coordinator /Tabulator par excellent, thought I was nuts ( n~)!! Well he did not say so but I could read between the lines.  y1

Just 75 flights short of that goal and I will sleep HAPPY tonight!!!!  H^^

Thanks Ringmaster owners/fliers/lovers --Thanks a million!!!  #^

I have a question.  If you equip a Ringmaster with a throttle and big tank, is it considered a flight if you take off, fly 10 laps, land, come to a rolling stop and take off again?   We had a couple of flights that did not make a lap, so they were not counted.  We figure you have to have at least a full lap with engine running to count as a flight.  Anyway next year 2000 flights is possible as the word gets out. John: we flew my Ringmaster at Delta Park on Sunday. It has a Saito .40 and throttle control. I think there were seven fliers and 5 Ringmasters there. Out of our 30 flights 13 of them were on mine and everyone flew it except Richard. I don't think anyone short tanked and the people who flew mine only counted each flight as one even though there were many touch and goes.

We thought about short tanking, Doc; but we decided we wouldn't be having any fun that way. Too much like work. So we just did our thang, did some stunts, I actually had to make three landings inverted, but they were perfect, and all on grass, so no damage. That plane is gonna get a new Brodak uniflow wedge tank....but I think I'l keep the "springy" needle valve! LOL! It's hard to get more than about 30/40 flights with only two old "ringslobs" that make many nature calls and lunch breaks etc. I figure 73 was the best # we could've possibly have done, though; given that we had to drive 40 miles sunday for more fuel. My pal had to go home early or we mighta got a few more. ;D
