Title: Tom Warden Continental
Post by: Darren Stout on October 27, 2009, 01:53:37 PM
Has anyone had experience with a Tom Warden Continental, as i have just purchased one of these kits and a brand new OS 46 LA-S
to go in it. Looked through kit and all wood etc looks superb first laser cut kit i have had, all so neat. Can't wait to build it, also if anyone
has any tips for building this model it would be greatly appreciated. always built most of planes from scratch.

Hi Darren;

I have no experience with the continental other than seeing the original fly at Whittier Narrows a long long time ago. Tom flew it beautifully and it was gorgeous in the air.

Here is a scan of Tom with the original when they appeared on the cover of MAN. I have the full article from this issue, if you'ld like it I'll scan it all.

Keep me posted on your progress, that's one of the kits I've eyeballed from time to time.

I've built the Windancer kit and like you normally build scratch.  The hardest thing for me was to follow the instructions as I am too use
to doing things my way in my order.  Got me in trouble a couple of times.  If you can, tint the canopy.  It really adds to the look.

well after a couple of days lazing around the house doing a few different planes i have the wing together. will post photo's up next week.
the big thing is what do i cover it with. used a nylon material on my akromaster and it come up pretty good so thinking about that. but long way off yet so will probably end up changing my mind

Darren.

Nylon might be a bit on the heavy side for that size of model? Get some Chinese silk from a haberdashery shop, always works for me, though I always end up sanding through it at some point! Going to cover everything with 16th sheet from now on ;D
