I've seen photos of Tom's shop before but still have to say WOW!

If I ever hit the lotto...

I had the opportunity to spend a couple of days at Toms house a few years ago and we built a Cavalier in his shop.  Not only does he have a shop to die for, he is one of the nicest human beings I have ever had the pleasure to know.

If someone builds your planes for you is it still a hobby?

Wow, what a shop and thanks for the tour Sparky.
Tom is one of the smart ones but more noticeably is his humility and kindness. He's a "git er done" kinda guy that just happens to be nice!

Could your hobby be flying model airplanes?

As opposed to building and flying? I guess so. For me the design and building is a big part of the hobby. It gives me a true sense of industry and accomplishment without pretending. Builders, kit makers ect. seem to be held in high regard as it should be imho. I guess I'm a guy like Tom although I only build for myself. It's good to see people still have respect for someone with craftsmanship skills.

Can you not paint and still be an art lover?  Most of us who buy Tom's airplanes also build but also enjoy fine art (tom's airplanes are art).  A big part of Tom's output is kits.  Do you have to scratch build for it to be still a hobby.   S?P

I build for myself, too...always made all my own control linkages, etc.
But now I'd select Tom's bellcranks, links, etc.
Does he have a comprehensive catalog?
Can I write the expense off as 'just a hobby'?

You have no idea how much nonsense he had to put up with when he was the SN editor.  I doubt whether stunt or PAMPA would still exist without Tom.
