Today's Flying
« on: April 03, 2016, 01:18:22 PM »
Robin's learning to fly.  My left hand is learning to fly.

Score:
  • bad engine: 1 (more in another thread)
  • me: 1
  • Robin: 3 or 4, depending on how you count

Two airplanes broke but repairable, one engine that seemed good here but acted dorked at the field.

Robin likes flying electric with a throttle -- it seems to cut down on her crashing.  I converted a largish 1/2-A plane to electric with a car-radio throttle, and that's what she flew.  The plane in the middle picture died on the test flight, with me at the handle.  Stupid left hand.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

A Mooney! I like it.
5 min and some CA glue and the small plane will be gtg

The Mooney, too, for that matter.  We broke the small one in half already and put it back; we stopped because we were out of time more than anything else.  I couldn't put the Moony back together in the field because I didn't have any foam-safe glue with me, and the tip weight had ripped out (again -- I'm going to re-think the mounting of that).

There's a build thread on the Mooney, if'n you're interested. http://stunthanger.com/smf/building-techniques/build-cartoon-scale-mooney-mite/

Yeah, I saw that thread. I didn't even notice the Mooney was broken because the small plane looks so much worse
