Title: to new jersey
Post by: larry jaconetta on May 06, 2006, 03:02:56 PM
A yes!!!!!! The good old days!!!!I live in new england, and enter mostly the new england meets, but i remember the good old days of the "union meet"---and the" east paterson" meet , and all the pro's that inspired me to stick with the hobby no matter what!! RICHIES TRI-O-RAMA field!!!remember it well! i remember when john deatavio was a youg man! i have a picture of--" john D--larry scarinzi--ray dimestro--doug hoffman" standing around going over the rules for a race they were going to have, I was all of about 12 at the time, and very wide eyed, and awed!!!! hey tom niebuhr---you remember that golden place where a kid can watch a great flight, then  go into richies and buy a kit, and cant wait to get it home to start to build it!!!!!!! I still see john D from time to time, when he comes up to new england with his planes to enter the N.E.S.T. meets. its always good to see him and watch him "out-eat" anybody there!!!! U-control!!--its not just a hobby----its a state of mind!!

We (my sons and I) flew at the UMAC'ERS Field, Union, NJ in the late '60s and early 70s.  I still see Larry Scarinzi at the Nats.  I still an new decal and a club patch from that era.

Larry,

Remember it all well. Glad to say I knew them all.

Union was the traditional Memorial Day contest. It was a great contest, They had stunt, scale, combat, and Carrier when it had realistic airplanes and flight..and growling McCoy .60s.

John D'ottavio and I practiced together at Rich's Hobby Towne (Triorama) and of course, the the GSCB field and all that great group... etc etc.

Welcome back!

In New Jersey during the early '50s, for me it was the Union MAC and flying at their field behind the Elastic Stop Nut factory.  Also the Linden MAC and flying at the Linden Airport.  And we had our own Club for a while in Cranford, the Cranford Flying Fools.  Got kicked off every field in Cranford because of the noise.  Baseball field outside Cranford near Kenilworth was okay because no homes around there.  Best fliers around were of course Red Reinhart and Larry Scarenzi.  Good memories.
