Has any one try tinting automotive clear, for transparent effect?
I have use Higgin's ink with clear dope but was just thinking if I can do the same with PPG or any other auto top coat?

House of Kolor sells candy tinting agents.

Listen to Robert. House of Kolor sells all kinds of additives for paint that work fine with dope or urethane. I've been making my own pearl paints using HoK's dry pearls in dope. Some of the prettiest colors you can imagine. The candy tintings, Ice Pearls and Kameleon Kolors are really something.

hi guy!!!!
you might try poly-span dye!!! its made for tinting poly-span-silkspan-silk!!! i dont know if it will work with automotive clear, but i dont see why not! i use it with buterate dope,
1 part dye---1 part clear dope......10 parts thinner
i make the mix, then spray it with light coats until the desired effect is what you want! then put your clear coats over it. If you have clear automotive paint, and clear automotive thinner, i dont see why it wouldnt work! try it on a test panel first. you can order the polyspan dye from

Pete Peterson from out west showed several of us how to obtain a transparent finish that doesn't fade in the sun like ink or tissue.
Since its his scheme lets see if he will post how he dose it.
All I can say it works great and after a year the two planes I have tried it on have not faded and its a doped finish, no trick ingredients except some House of Color concentrates.

Marshall;
If Pete doesn't post, how about letting us in on the technique. Dyed translucent finishes take a real beating in the hot Georgia summer sun.
