McCoy .35 RH vs. Brodak .25????
« on: August 31, 2016, 10:03:55 AM »
     Hi All:

I have a CG Shoestring and a Sterling F -51 that are set up to fly with old McCoy .35 Red Head stunt engines.  These combinations are new and never been run.  They are about 15 point finishes on the planes.

I also have a Brodak .25 engine that is languishing in my "junk" engine drawer that may be a better choice for these planes. I think that the Brodak is lighter requiring less tail weight, easier starting, smoother engine run and of course. and less noise if that matters.

What are your thoughts re. replacing the McCoys with the Brodak in both planes?  The F 51 will be used in OTs and the Shoestring will be used where legal.

     Suggestions and/or comments?

                                                                                                                   Tia,

                                                                                                                   Frank McCune

I don't think you meant to post this in the classified section, did you?

The administrator could move this to the Open section,  but I will answer him here anyway with less than two cents worth of knowledge.  If he is looking for quiet engine, go with the Brodak .25.   With the right prop the plane should fly fine.   But, if he put up with the sound of the old McCoy and it's broken in,  go for it.  My Brodaks have seemed to gone out to pasture.   He also will need to make sure there is castor oil in the fuel.
