CG on flapped Peacemaker ?
« on: April 22, 2009, 09:33:24 AM »
I got  the plan for the flapped Peacemaker
from B Baxter and the CG is 5/8" back from
the LE of the wing, seems very far forward
will be using a CS Oliver diesel, have the
wing and fuselage built but is looking very
tail heavy at this stage. Now wing & tail
covered , started putting finish on fuselage
and CG is about 3" back from LE, as most
of the finish is behind the CG , am a little
concerned, whether to ignore the plan
and have the CG where most stunters will be

I think you will find that this drsign will have the balance point near the leading edge just like the flight streak. I would go with what is on the plans and try to make it light in the rear end. If you are balancing it with the engine in it and it is tail heavy that's not good. I would check your construction and see if there is some way of lightning it. Good luck! HB~>

GMA stated in the construction article that it is critical that every effort should be made to ensure it is not tail heavy.

That should go for any new plane.  A little nose heavy, okay.  Tail heavy a no no.  DOC Holliday

Vincent,

Many stunters have the balance point at or near the high point on the wing at the fuselage. These are usually tapered wing ships. Note that Peacemaker has a straight wing.
Your choice.

Straight leading edges models usually trim out at about 15-20% of the MAC.
Just get it ahead of the 20% MAC and it should fly decently.
