Curiosity got to me about this one which I have not heard anything about.  Anyone care to comment on it?

Bill,
If your talking about the GP 40 it is a copy of the OS 40 fp but is in my opinion much better made. All parts are interchangable with the Tower 40 and the 40FP
The motor was offered in a C/L version with a nice Needle valve and sprinkler Venturi. The bore of the Venturi was unfortunately too large to be used as a stunt setup but replacememnts are readily available.
A very good starter and runner, much less vibration then the OS, it is an ABN I believe.
I have several of them and all run well.
Really Thunder Tigre has been overlooked consistantly by the C/L fraternity with the exception of the 36 Pro
Many of the plain bushing motors are copies of the OS FP series I. E.  15/20/25/40/60
The 42 is in my opinion as good as the OS 46 and is a real miser on fuel. Also seems to have a little more grunt then the OS.
Try one and you will probably be well pleased   ;D  :D

Dennis,

I have the TT42 and 46 that I use on my RC planes.  You're right, they are great engines particularly when you consider the price.  Are they available as CL or do the RC versions have to be modified?  Also where do you get them or the mods for them??

Thanks
Sam

Sam,
The conversion for the 46 is pretty straight forward requiring only a venturi and needle valve assembly. You may have to shim the head with a gasket depending on your wants or set up.
The 42 requires a little more work as the carb is a bolt on assembly.
Remove that and have a venturi made or acquire one from the suppliers on the forums. It should be placed into the motor and using the flat dot on the venturi throat part of the casting drill the appropriate hole through the case and venturi simultaniously. A drill press is highly recommended for this procedure.Obviously you will have made sure that you made provisions to keep any metal shavings from entering the crank or throat of the motor. and follow up with a careful flishing to make sure that everything is clean.
Install your needle valve assembly, I like the OS one for this motor, and your good to go.
We installed one  TT42 brand new on a Brodak Cardinal and went flying. It was a first flip start, needled perfectly and we flew the plane. After 5 runs we compared it to an OS 46 powered Cardinal and it flew with the same authority and actually ran a lot longer then the OS on the identical type tank. Most thought that the 42 had a little more pull then the OS in the overheads. By the way I owned both planes and they were both set up identically. I'm not an expert so you can take my opinions for what they're worth. But like the OS 46 these are some of the best sport motors you can buy and while they are cheaper to buy then the OS, they probably do cost a little more when you figure in the cost of the venturi and NVA.

Thanks Dennis,

Great information.  The Cardinal is the plane I had in mind for the TT42.  Many of the guys in our RC club think the TT42 has more guts than the 46.  Who did you use as a supplier for the necessary parts?

Thanks again.

Sam

Thanks Dennis.

I tried Leonard and he responded with price etc.  I then sent him my name and address and he hasn't responded.  Do you know anyone else that might supply the parts for my TT42 and TT46?

Scott Reese or Randy Smith, there are others but their names come immediately to mind.

I rcvd the mods for my TT42 and 4 6 from Leonard today.  I guess he just didn't have time to reply to my emails.   I'll let you know how I make out.

Hi Guys,

I have a TT GP40 RC version that I want to convert to CL.  I thought the venturi and NVA were the same a an OS40FP but it's not.  The spray bar does not go through the crankcase as it does on the OS. The Venturi has the offset fixing bolt similar to the Super Tigre so the NVA has to go through the venturi only (higher up). Can anyone suggest where I might find a suitable Venturi and NVA for this engine?

I have tried Stuka Stunt Works but they never respond to my emails so I was going to try Just Engines in the UK

Regards,
Warren
