Help find a tool
« on: December 24, 2006, 08:51:05 AM »
Hi All,

I once had a razor plane made by Solingen which used double edge razor blades.

In the great "Shop Clean-up" it disappeared!

Anyone know where these are available??

(I already have a Master products plane, the Solingen was MUCH sharper and capable of thinner cuts)

Thanks!

I have no idea what my is. No manufacturer marks on it, but I've had it for 30 years.

These look pretty cool though.

Got this one from the Hobby Lobby 20 + yrs. ago.  Also takes double edge SS blades. Will end plane 1/16th sheet!

I think my razor plane was marketed under the name "Little Giant".

Got one. It's good, but does not compare to the "FIX" sold back in the '80s. The Balsa Stripper, however, is the best I've ever used! I even bought a big box of blades for the stripper.
(Too many irons; not enough fire)

Robert,

Well, there you go. Marketed by Martor tools. See Steve Helmick's thread on Martor tools.

I did a little more poking around with Google and found a source for Martor products in Wisconsin or that vicinity. There might be a dealer listing on the site, but I haven't found it. I can see where our tool buyer got them, after the holiday. http://www.martorusa.com/site/index.html

Hobby Lobby has some cool stuff! If you are looking for one of those fancy prop balancers, Kavan makes one, and it's cheaper than the Dubro produced one. I can't knock Dubro products, but I have to think the Kavan unit might just be a notch better, for less money. Very nice pilot figures, too! Take a look:

Yup, the Kavan balancer may be less bucks, but it's wheels are plastic (I think), DuBros are steel. But if you haven't tried the Top Flite Power Point magnetic balancer, you haven't balanced a prop, a spinner, a flywheel, or anything that rotates!
