Thoughts on Ringmaster Fly-a-Thon Eve
« on: October 02, 2020, 07:59:46 PM »
Everyone,
I have my Ringmasters all ready to fly tomorrow and as I look them over the Jr. Ringmaster stands out as significantly different in tail section (stab, elevator and rudder).  Does anyone have an idea of why there was a departure in design?  The Beginner and Baby seem to follow along with the S-1 as does the Super Ringmaster.  Has anyone redone the tails to bring them in line with the S-1 and if so, any noticeable difference in performance?  My Jr. seems to fly fine but I cannot help but wonder if there was a reason for the change.  Would be interested in hearing any opinions or facts on this one.
Thank you,
John

Check out the above lin to an Outerzone rendition of the plan and a picture. Looks the same to me, so if yours doesn't resemble all the other versions of the RM, then the original builder took liberties with the tail end.

I have to agree with Dan. My Ringmaster Jr., built in the late 60's, has similar shape to the S1 Ringmaster. Smaller size appears to be the only difference.

Everyone,
OK, now that the RMFAT (RingMaster Fly A Thon) festivities are complete, batteries put in storage mode and slimers wiped off I was able to catch some pics of what I meant about the tails being different.  I am showing the elevator and stab for the Jr against the S-1 and Beginner's.  I checked the parts from the Sterling and Brodak kits I have and they match the one shown in the pictures.  Still have the same questions, and perhaps nobody really knows why it is the way it is, but does anyone think there would be a performance difference if the original S-1 style stab and elevator were used?

Rudders are coming in a later post.

Thank you,
John
