auto pin stripe tape

Has anyone use auto pin stripe tape to use as trim?
My guess is the fuel will make is come lose quicker then monokote.

Let me know if anyone has tried it.

Paul: I've used auto pinstripe tape, but I sprayed a coat of clear on after
applying the tape. This worked out just fine.  Steve

I work for Cowles Products. We make Cal Stripe striping tape. Several coats of clear will be requied to make it work. Clear urathane works better. The dope will react to the tape if you put it on wet. Several dust coats will be required.

My experience is that Cowles makes some of the better tapes in the market... I believe you guys are using 3M solvent acrylic transfer adhesives and five year rated  cast vinyls. Good stuff!

I got a sample of their 1/8th" masking tape, and I am very impressed with it.

Finesse is realy the stuff to use. My local customer has it on his shelf and they also make just masking tape very fine line. Painting is always superior to striping tape. Striping tape in the automotive aftermarket is very popular because it allows John Q. public to do his own striping job.

I happen to be kin to some auto-painters.  I've seen them use a product that was actually a pre-made mask for pinstriping.  It went on just like pinstripping tape but was a bit wider.  You pull off the top layer and it leaves strips of high quality masking tape on the surface to be striped.  Paint between the strips of masking tape.  When it dries pull the tape off and you're left with a nice clean uniform stripe.  (or double or triple stripe depending on the pattern of tape you use)  Several coats of clear can be used to "level" the finish so the stripe doesn't appear to be a ridge.  I've even seen one of my cousins cut masks for special designs on a vinyl cutter and use them in a similar way.

I think that you'll like the Finesse Striper pinstriping tapes. It's easy to apply but it doesn't curve well if it's still on the carrier tape. Leaves very clean lines and a sharp edge with no bleed under. Of course I airbrushed some of the base color to seal the edges first. I tried it on my ringmaster just for effect.
