Questions on Silk and Sparkplugs @ VSC
« on: March 25, 2008, 06:59:45 PM »
Hi All; Several people asked me about the silk from Dharma Trading Co. and Rimfire sparkplugs at VSC, and I cannot remember everyone, so am posting the info here.

For silk @ $2.05 per yd.--Go to <http://www.dharmatrading.com/> then go to frabics at the top of the page, then silk fabrics, then silk Habotai, then HS536 silk Habotai 5mm 36" 11 yd. bolts to order silk. Great stuff. It is a little tighter weave than the old model silk, and needs to be pulled a little tighter than usual, and shrunk with hi shrink dope,( I use Sig Supercoat) for the first few coats. It is light and does not take much dope to fill it so at their price you might want to give it a try.

The Rimfire sparkplugs web page is <http://sparkplugs.morrisonandmarvin.com/> Very good plugs that won't blow the seals after a few flights like the old Champions. Give them a try.

Hi Jim
First off thanks for all the help you gave me at VSC, if not for you and Doug (sorry Doug I never got your last name) me and the Lil' Ziltch whould not have had near as much fun.

I went to the web site for the spark plugs and looked over their products.  My problem is what plug in the 1/4 32 size is best for the Forster .35 I am currently running.  If I am running 10% to  15% nitro glow fuel do I want a hot plug, cold plug, or mid heat range plut?  How does one know if the engine is pre igniting besides a hole in the top of the piston.  I intend to continue to pick your brain because you are the "Master".

Hey Andrew; Thanks for the kind words, but I am just learning like everyone else. As far as the Rimfire plugs in your Forster 35, they originally ran V2 plugs, and that is what I would go for in the Rimfire. I have been running the V2 Rimfires in many old engines with 1/4-32 plugs, and they work very well in all of them. I have never had a problem with pre ignition, but I guess it can happen. The only cases I have heard about, was with high nitro fuel, and the old wire type plugs, where on a lean run the little hook wire began to glow which in turn caused the pre ignition.

Really glad to have met you at VSC and hope to see you there again. Sparkers can be frustating at times, but they are so much fun to run. I was glad to see you get in a flight, as that makes it all worthwhile.
