This Should Make Randy Smith Smile
« on: December 16, 2012, 09:12:30 AM »
Attach is pictures of RC great Chip Hydes SV-11's. Just so you know, Chip built these ships from the ground up. Nice to see the F3A boys rolling it BOM style. My guess is that all hell is going to break loose over at the "Getting all Amped Up" section here because, Chip is going to be putting some seriously cutting edge F3A stuff in the nose. When Chip rolls, ALL the F3A cats pay attention.

This has got to make Randy Smith happy!!

Well, actually, Milt, Chip assembled these from ARC kits from Randy. He did a bit of control system modification, but they are ARC models.

Randy Cuberly provided Chip with an ARC SV-11 and he flew that for a while until he had an engine flame out in a maneuver and lost the ship. He purchased two of the SV-11 ARC kits from Randy to keep him going in practice until he gets his new competition ship built. I'm just now getting ready to cover the wing for his new ship and am in frequent contact with Chip about his program.

Chip, by the way, is a very astute and creative thinker and I predict that he will turn heads quickly in this event. Lots of ideas and lots and lots of energy!

Very cool, nice to see Chip "crossing over" here and checking out C/L Stunt. This should be fun to watch. y1

DUH!!! HB~> Are you telling me Chip Hyde didn't build these? What the $%lLL is up with these F3A guys. For crying out loud, don't they ever build anything!! Bob, maybe you should send him one of your Lost Foam Wing kits and make him do right.

Thanks for setting me straight on this.

I sent Chip the 2 SV-11s a few weeks ago. Chip is a very talented pilot/modeler, a great guy, and will have no problems building anything he wants to build. I hope he enjoys the Vectors and SV ships he had been flying and is setting up now. It will be interesting to see where he goes with them, and how far.
THE Main things is of course that  he enjoys flying C/L stunt!  after all that is what is all about, enjoying the activity.
I look with great interest to see the new ships when they are finished.

Regards
Randy

Chip Hyde spent a little over a week here with us in Tucson flying everyday.  He came with a clapped out old ARF Nobler which he actually flew very well considering that he had been flying Stunt only a few weeks.  His patterns though a little inconsistent were at a high advanced/low expert level already at that point.
After the Nobler finally gave up and simply fell apart I provided him with an ARF SV11 with an OS55AX that I had been trimming and developing the engine to run a good stunt run.
With help from RJ Whitely and myself his patterns immediately improved to a middle expert standard and seemed to improve with each flight.
Chip impressed everyone here that he is a very nice young man with tremendous talent, drive, desire and the resources to become a champion in CL Stunt as he has already shown the world he is in RC pattern.
Chip is one of those rare people that will do well in whatever he desires to pursue, and be a good person while doing it.

Incidentally the SV11 in my opinion is an excellent design with very forgiving qualities and Randy Smith is to be complimented for his accomplishmet in designing it.  Of course excellent accomplishment is no stranger to him either.

Milt,
Read closer. Bob Hunt said "He purchased two of the SV-11 ARC kits from Randy to keep him going in practice until he gets his new competition ship built."

Chip is a very serious and innovative modeler who will be a large asset and influence in CL Stunt.  His talent and dedication is amazing. He has gone from CL beginner to Expert level in just a few months! I can't wait to meet him.

Chip drives down here to Tucson to fly with myself and Keith and the rest of the clan
and to practice up for VSC.  What really pains me is he listens and then applies what
he heard to his flying. He is a funny guy and his mind works in hyper drive so that I
only have to tell him once about whatever and he remembers it.  What makes it so easy
for me is that he already knows what it takes to make a plane fly and how to build
and isn't afraid to cut up a plane to fix it. And yeah, he will be a force to be
reckoned with very soon! He also knows how the BOM works and has no problem
with it. He will be down this weekend to tweak on his newest model and some
hard critiquing. He's fun to be around.  RJ

I know fully well that Chip is going to hook it up proper. I just thought he built those two ships-no biggy. As an aside, there was a beautiful pink and blue Hydeout hanging from the ceiling of the hobby shop I used to frequent in Socal. Even though the ship was pre-F3A, those things were still really big!!  If he is hooking up with Bob Whitely-then I suspect another Nats win for Chip no time soon. y1

Another Note: there seems to be a much higher percentage of RC Pattern flyers who were CL stunt flyers then the other way around. Some of these guys go back to the Nobler and Fox era, and transitioned away to RC when that got big. Seems like they really got their act together learning how to build straight, trim out a ship on CL stunt and then, carried those skills over to RC pattern.

Yeah,
Emphasis on modeler. He was the guy designing and building the CA models , so he built the ARF's guys bought 'round the world. He'll have no trouble building his own model, designing one either for that matter.
