Got a message from Bob Cheney last night that some of the Minneapolis Piston Poppers were going to gather and lay out and take up the lines.
My wife had a back surgery Monday and it has been a tough week at the hospital but today she was much improved so my sister in law stayed with her and I got to go and join the Poppers Pop. It was much need for me after seeing my wife in so much pain over the last couple of days. Thank you to the Heavens.
The weather was absolutely perfecto......no wind. Not hot. No humidity. Some cloud cover. No skeeters.
I was first there and but the Bi-Slob up. Bob Cheney drove up with his planes in his truck as my Bi-Slob ran out of fuel at the top of a wing over. The lines went slack and it came down nose first to the center of the circle.
No damage other than a broken prop. Amazing. I had my best flight ever on it in front of the gang. Maybe I just like an audience. ~>

Bob got out his Flite Streak and a racer and put up a great flight on the Streak.
He is ever thoughtful and a Big Thankee for the circle mowing Bob.

Then John Christensen showed up with yet another profile Cardinal and went through his pattern without a glitch. He gave me a 10-5 prop to try on my Prowler and it worked great. He has been ever so helpful and encouraging to me with good and simple suggestions.

Well I flew the Prowler and did inverted flight for the first time on it. Did outside loops from inverted for the first time on it. Did an overhead 8 for the first time on it. Did a horizontal 8 for the first time on it. Did a reverse wingover for the...well...you get it. Felt great and fun to have the gang there for support. I am learning to trust the plane and though I tell myself to fly easy it just does not take.
Maybe I just like an audience. Deja-vous.

Keith Sandberg and his 7 year old daughter Rachel showed up next and Rachel got right out and flew the Keith designed challenger. Wow. She can hold her own. Even flew solo!
Keith put up an amazing pattern on the Hot Shot and was truly nice and gave me some good and simple pointers as well. Just fly like you fly. I love that all the members share freely.
Then Keith's Parents showed up and took their lawn chairs out to watch their Grand Daughter fly like a pro. Very cool to see the family affair.

Next Tony Kubes of the firm handshake, the club Prez,  arrived and got out the warbirds and threw up some terrific patterns with good low bottoms. Truly nice feller and said he had a fun day of golf then some flying. Good day...good day.

I was very inspired tonight for sure.
This type of impromptu control line gathering on a wonderful evening is how I dream of control line life to be. Having fun, sharing pitting and flights. Helping others and again....having fun.
I drove home with my planes intact...a smile on my face...a call from my wife and she was talking shop so I know she is getting better and stronger. And a renewed vigor for flying control line.
Whooooo buddy))))

This is one of the best posts yet.   Glad you guys are getting together and flying.   The fly in David Trible had at his circle in KC area did no have that many show up.   I was late that day because of Church.   After Brodaks I hope to change all that and get to the circle.   May not fly until I have help or someone is there though.

Thanks for the great pictures and you guys keep having fun.

  • Welcome to the Stunt Hanger.

Thanks for the story and pics Shug. Talked to Keith on the phone later last night and it sounded like it was a great evening out there, ideal flying weather too. My next window to get up there will be Sunday the 15th. I'm hoping to fly the "new" Avenger if the weather cooperates. Hope to catch up with you soon...

Ideal way to break the stress! Prowler is flying nice. Bi-Slob is too much fun.

Off to the field to fly with a few of the fellers today. Got my ARF Super Clown together and will put it up with an OS .35.
My wife is doing so much better and her sister will be with her. Whoooooo Buddy. It'll be a nice break from being wet-nurse.

I didn't see my friend Steve Scott in the print or pictures.  Anyone see him & his son around at the field?

He was not in attendance......still waiting to meet those fellers.
I did get my Brodak Super Clown ARF Sunday out for some flights. It grooved))))
Bob Cheney, Rick, Ivars, George, Pete, Jeff, John and Tony all showed up to fly. Bob and Jeff were practicing some racing skills. Ivan flew a mighty fine electric stunt ship. It may have been Georges. They were there early and left shortly after I arrived. Pete had an old classic full fuse Ringmaster. John had yet another profile Cardinal and ran his patterns oh so well. Rick tried to get his Evolution on the PT-19 started to no avail. Tony flew his combat plane and his P-40 I think it was. Great flying.
Tony gave me a hard point handle he made. It feels really pro.
Flew the Bi-Slob with reckless abandon.......it is getting glued back together.
Tweaked the Prowler. Changing out landing gear.
Fun times.
Hope that I remembered all that showed up to spin the lines.

Seems like the change in weather is bringing the fellers out. I am trying to fly as much as I can before my Summer work schedule gets crazy busy. Feeling improvement every time.
Hope to get out there Sunday too and look forward to meeting you.
