Face it. RC aeromodeling is by far what the public sees. If CL and FF were promoted 1% of this type promotion, IMO things might get better for CL and FF as they could be seen by John Q. Public.

  We have a similar organization here in St. Louis called The Greater St. Louis Modeling Association. Been in existence for 40 years or so and includes any kind of model hobby club. Everything from Rockets to Live Steam has been part of it over the years. The main requirement is to have a member at monthly meetings. It has a web site now, and membership has ebbed and flowed up and down over the years. They are the main contact with the St. Louis County Parks Department when it comes to goings on at Buder Park.

The Northwest has a site that does something along this line; www.flyinglines.org. A great site! It would be nice if every geographic area had a good site that consolidated info.

As it is, I think each club has to do what it can at their level to try to promote our hobby.

I went to an airshow on Sunday... It is a small place where people get close to the action (within regulations) and one of the performances was a Control Line Combat demonstration. Clearly the spectators thought it was impressive. Most of them had probably never heard about C/L.

I thought the next bit was even better: during a break in the main airshow, the Announcers accepted the challenge and got to fly too. I'm not sure what sort of a handle setup they had, as there was a skilled flier there who got the Combat planes flying first. The lady announcer did fine, the guy got a bit too adventurous and nosed in the airplane...
