On the way home from stunt practice in Arlington today I saw a bald eagle north of Everett , an FW-190 and a Messerschmidt Bf-109 south of Everett, and the Blue Angels over Bellevue. Pretty cool.

I was out putting some patterns in at the King Road circle in Burlington Ontario and the Canadian Warplane Heritage Lancaster passed by the circle. But please don't tell the BF 109 or FW 190

Took my kids n grandkids over to Seattle to watch the BLUES FLY their practice routine (low to med. altitude performance.
Nice weather...but lots of clouds...perhaps tomorrow will be betta.

Very cool indeed Howard. Although rare, I've enjoyed those types of aviation moments. For someone who respects our military heritage it's the type of day that just makes you remember, and the type of day that I live for.

Then on "Monday" you run into some dilrod who doesn't know a thing about WWII, or that it even happened, and you're slapped in the face with todays reality.

That part literally makes me sick.

I drive by a particular Bald Eagle's nest probably 2-3 times a week. They are majestic animals just perched there. Once in awhile one is soaring; it is poetry. I need to start carrying my video camera all the time.

Howard, thats awesome, I keep hoping that some one will schedule a stunt contest the same weekend that Paul Allens 109 flies so I have a good excuse to make the trip ,,,
rumor has it I like bf 109s,,

I work in the flight path for Lewiston airport, the travelling B-17 and B25 were in Lewiston giving rides last week, I was kinda dissapointed you didnt buy me a ride Howard!

they made several low passes during a two day span, it was pretty cool to hear those radials rumbling overhad,, sigh,, to bad I couldnt play hooky from work to go check them out

At our field here in Vancouver we have a pair of bald eagles that sit on a cel phone tower on the NE corner of the field. Their nest is just across the highway and they've been residents here for the past half dozen years. What is really fun is to listen to them talk to each other when one returns to the perch after being out fishing or whatever. We're lucky here in Southern BC with some of the best eagle habitats anywhere. During some of the salmon runs on streams out in the valley, East of the metro area you can see hundreds of bald eagles at a time.

That's a hell of a day Howard. Today I had a Lady Merlin bathing for about 10 minutes in our water dish on the patio. Raptors really seem to love the water. She was darn near rolling around in it. Thanks for sharing... Damn, an FW 190......... Stupid question.... Radial or inline??

The Merlin is an inline engine, and, as you observed today, is water cooled.

We have an bald eagles nest in a piece of protected land across the street from us here in Bradenton (FLA.). Occaisionally he will dive bomb a three pound Bass in the pond in my back yard and take it home to the family.

Which do you want it to be?

The A series (and F and G) had BMW radials but the D (Dora) came with a liquid-cooled 12-cylinder inverted-V Junkers Jumo engine.

I like them both. I was trying to get the picture in my brain of the plane banking away in a climb and it's hard to do if you don't know if it was R or I, they look so different.

Update n the lady Merlin. She came for the waters but has stayed for the larder. She was witnessed last week taking a male Starling and a young red squirrel..... I watched her soaring overhead today while I was mowing.....

We're really lucky in today's modern era. When the fledgling mallards are preparing to start learning to fly it is required that they be provided helmets, knee and arm pads and insurance; and that they purchase learner's permits from the associated city, county, state and federal licensing agencies. Thus, when you see them in their pads and helmets you'll know both that they're about to test their wings AND that their licensing fees are providing "revenues" to your government to support ongoing efforts to protect the species. Sort of a wing, wing.

The B25 from the CWH museum flew over quite low this morning while I was working around the yard. The twin round engines have quite a different sound from the four Merlins in the Lanc.
