Theft is a Bummer
Someone had broken into my apartment and Stole a bunch of my airplane stuff. Basically 8 ZTW & 3 Castle ESC, 6 KR Timers, 12 brand new Lipo Batteries 3s & 4s. All my motors 12 total plus an Ipod, Ipad and some RC car speed controls & Motors.
I had bought all this in advance while I had money so I could use it in my budgeted retirement coming up. With my currant bad health issues I can't afford to replace it.
Will most likely be getting rid of some kits here soon

Man, bummer. Sorry to hear.
Police report == good idea. The way the police see things may be different and helpful. And, every now and then, they catch the bad guys. Not sure they were called to the scene right away, but they are good at spotting clues. My house was hit by a vandal, and the initial police response and follow-up when we found the culprit ourselves was helpful. Kid ended up an armed robber eventually, anyway, but he might have been even worse without the responses.
Of course you have though of an insurance claim, if available. That goes without saying.
Two further ideas:
1. Check not only pawn shops and hobby shops, but also websites like craigslist, ebay, offerup, facebook. Possibly specialized websites, too, like this one.
2. Sad though it is to say, consider who is acquainted with you.

Sadly or strangely they seemed to know exactly what to take- like a modeler. At any rate if you are an AMA member you have $1000 coverage for theft. Sounds like you lost more than that but it would be enough to keep you flying. Good luck.

Thanks, Never even considered AMA. Also I now have Renters Insurance which I should have done anyway.

I will reiterate that you watch local hobby shops, pawn shops and local Craig's list. If anything is new in package with a price tag, they might try to "return" them and some shops may do that. They may try for a quick sale on Craig's List but there isn't any market for mot of that stuff. Pawn shops should be checked but a pawn shop might not touch that stuff because they don't know what it is for, and again, no market to resell it. I know of several people who recovered stolen stuff this way. It just takes some diligence and patience.
If you should catch them, do what Uncle Fester often suggests, "Shoot ;'em in the back!"!!!!

Kevin I am very sorry to hear this. Nothing makes you feel more violated than theft, especially when they break into your home. I have outdoor and indoor surveillance systems as well as audible alarms. Here in New Orleans, the cops don't even try to look for these slugs because there are 15 murders an hour down here and they cant even keep up with that. A cop down here just recently told me the drug problem was so bad that these people are stealing anything from anyone that they can to pawn for drug money. My neighbor across the street had a ladder stolen out of his backyard and I watched it happen. He is a contractor and I thought it was one of his men just picking up the ladder. They caught him on camera and the cop talked to me and told me as a witness he said the drug problem had reached epidemic proportions and that was the catalyst for these home robberies. It does suck and makes you want to hurt these bastards.

Unless you have had a theft of major value ,say $3K or more and if significant visible damage to premises was done, you can forget police help. They will take your report and essentially do nothing. They pick only major crimes or theft to investigate.
I had a shotgun stolen from my garage. Nothing else missing. The police said "good luck" that's all.

If there is a flea market nearby, get to it asap and look for you stuff. These guy do not like to hold stolen good for more than a short time.

Sorry to say, but you are right about that unless through blind luck they run into the items. To the OP, best to follow all of the above advice, the problem however will be proving it's yours if found. It's terrible when these animals invade your space. It's worse than just taking something, it is a violation of ones inner sanctum and peace.
