The Tucker 4 in bones
« on: September 14, 2008, 11:38:13 PM »
Here is a photo of the Tucker 4 in bones. All of the woodworking is done and most of the rough sanding. The wheel pants are not shown on the plane but they would not show in this view. The balsa is on the way to the laser cutter.

Gorgeous bones.

Was the Tucker and I Beam originally?

I probably will cover it with silkspan although I have considered leaving it ready to cover and showing off the woodwork at Huntersville. I was well pleased with the molded top and bottom fuselage parts. They sure save a lot of carving. I did have to use short blocks where the curves would have gone through the moldings.
The landing gear has wheel pants which was done on several of the classic planes. These are different than the PAMPA plans in that this landing gear is removeable. I am thinking of adding an extra set of wheel wires in each kit so the plane can also be equipped with a set of wheels that do not have the wheel pants. They can be changed when someone wants to fly on grass. I don't think I have seen this done before. Any comments?
There is no updates on the kits yet as the wood is on the way to the laser cutters.
A picture of the engine compartment with the Brodak 40 in place and part of the cowl built around it. I used a block to finish the curved area
