Thunder Tiger Pro 46 CL
« on: December 14, 2020, 04:16:37 PM »
I bought this engine for next to nothing at a swap meet.
LCS CL MODIFIED is written on the box.
It has the stock muffler and a Randy Smith tongue muffler.
Anyone know anything about it or who LCS is?

I have one, still with carb.  It’s a beast of a motor.  I had mine on a 25% enlarged Flying Fool (about 530sq in area and 50oz) with 3 line throttle, and it was about twice the motor it needed. Probably equivalent to a single bypass 60 of yesteryear.

I've got 2. Super powerful. I think these are PERFECT for Classic CL ships to "wake them up from their sleep" of yesteryear 35 and 40 engines.

I used several for RC.  Typical heavy BB and ABN (or ABC for the older ones) they have relatively high power output.  It was the clone for the OS .46 AX.  I think the head engineer for Thunder Tiger (Taiwan company) used to work for OS (Japan).

Good RC motor for the money but the LA .46 is much better power/weight ratio and runs a better stunt run.

Hey, Guys - thanks for the information.
At this point, I don't have any big planes that I can use to test fly the engine but I'll try and borrow a P-40 or something of that nature and see how it performs.

Doesn't anyone know what  "LCS CONTROL LINE MODIFIED"  means, though? The suspense is killing me! I can't think of any engine builder with those initials.  I think I have one of these in stock control line trim, but I dn't think it came with a black plastic venturi.

Think a bit bigger than a P40 might be the idea. The SF 46 with a 320 venturie is good for a PM 60 at 80 Oz. on 15 % nitro . !
The AX / TT 46 might be better . Longer Stroke . Should deal with any 60 Oz ship, anyway .

Goota box of free dismantled TT 46s . Intend to assemble a few to try . Randy says he raises the bypass . ( Less blowdown ) .

Definitely heavy - 12.1 ounces with the tongue muffler.

LCS....Hmmmmm. How did Lou Woolard mark his reworks? Big Art? Larry Foster? I only know "GMA" and "T&L".

It would be awesome if somebody compiled a list of engine reworkers, their markings, etc. Not that there won't always be some locals that few know about.   D>K Steve

I recently acquired four new Thunder Tiger .42s, RC of course for very little.  These will be LEE CL modified.  Heard they make a decent stunt engine.  Not sure what I'll do with them but I might do a profile and maybe some of the family will use them.  Look to be very well made.  My hope is they will be similar in run and power to the FP .40 which I prefer over the LA .46.

Lew Woolard did not mark his motors.   Wish he would have!!
