FINALLY DONE! Here is my latest building project...she's done and almost ready to fly! :o
Rich

Beautiful. It appears to be built to the high standards of Jive Combat Team aircraft.
-
Very Kwel !
What engine?
I like the cheek cowls. Seems like they would make for a real solid nose. How many SQ's in the wing?
-
BEAUTFIUL!!!! I like it a lot!!! H^^

Howard,
Thank you! Phillip was and is a great mentor for the project. Since he lives 3 hours away from me, needless to say, when I messed things up along the way, he was a phone call or email away to help me out. I showed him the fully built model last October during GSSC, and he critiqued it pretty hard which left me to do a few things over to get them per his specs! He even donated a Randy Smith gear and wheel pants to the project. After I did all the graphic design, compostion, color coordination, etc, etc, he volenteered to cut the vinyl paint masks for me with my CAD files. On the wing of the plane I even put a 'Special Thanks' for him.
The plane is 58 oz (without the fuel tank) and equipped with a piped VF 40. I've applied all of his 'set up' numbers so the engine, pipe, and prop combos will be really close or right on for the first flight. The plane is slightly tail heavy but I'll have to remake the tail wheel. She'll finish out around 60-61oz flight ready with an additional 1/2-1oz of tip weight (there is already an ounce built in to the wing which is part of the original 58oz) I'll post results once I'm ready to fly her.... ;D

Hey Rich,
That's a Beautiful Job, I'm sure Phil Granderson would be real proud of your effort.
Good Luck,

Nice plane, Richard. I'm so glad you're moving up to Expert!
When is GSSC and where? ??? Steve

Another beautiful plane, Rich.
You must have had some paint left over from the Spitfire.
I wish you the best of success!

Thanks Derek
This is a completely different color blue and all of the paint is automotive except for the black which is Brodak Jet Black. The base blue is 'Plakablau Blue' from 92 Mercedez Benz...

Whatever gave you the idea I'm moving to Expert?
Don't know when GSSC is...I'm not involved with it for now...

Rich,
maybe Steve is having a bout of wishfull thinking,, y1
I do remember you relating as to how one of the senior pilots gave you notice that you were just about ready to move up,,
but thats ok, I still want another chance at you in Eugene next year! I promise I will practice,, lol
seriously, look forward to seeing this beauty next year.

Hey Rich; you know I want to move up to advanced, and need your "expert" butt out of the way LL~ LL~ LL~. Really, with that very impressive flight that won you advanced at the NW Regional, you should/deserve to move up.

Yes that happened and yes he did say that... but for now we'll see how the remainder of the season goes... S?P

Come on Mark, another chance?? NO MORE CHANCES! We (I) need to get Richard out of the way! I know I'll never place in Advanced, but with him in Expert, I'll be at least 13th, not 14th! ;D ;D ;D (Any chance of YOU moving up and putting me to 12th? #^ #^)

Hey, the new plane looks sharp! Nice job, Rich! I think I like the blue better than the yellow anyway.
BTW, stay in advanced with me for another season. I like the competition and you're always one of the top guys to beat.
-
@ Rich,
first off, I DO look forward to flying against you again. Right now the Regionals have some really great competition in advanced. I think there are probably half the guys that flew this year that at any point could have had "the" flight, and been ontop, this year it was you, maybe next year when MY new secret weapon is finished It will be my go round.
In any case, I would hate to loose that competative field we have now. ( not sure I am quite up there yet,, but time will tell....)
Brian Brian Brian,, sigh,, You always have Helmick to pick on,, hes a good target.
Hey Steve, let me fly your plane against you again,, muah ha ha,,

Thanks Clint!
I'll be hanging around in Advanced awhile longer...at least until I'm consistantly breaking 500+ pts...only did that once in 2008. Not exactly consistant...

Brian,
Move up when you want to, regardless of who is where... :-\
-
Richard. nice job. I see that you are not using the Magnum .36 that the plane is designed for. And on prior posts I have read that PTG is also using the same 40 VF as you. Tell me is the Magnum .36 not up to the task with this design.
Thanks,
Keith McCrary
Owner of two NIB Magnum .36 engines.

Oh move up and get it over with.
I never flew a 500 point flight as an advanced flyer but the competition back then wasn't like it is today.
I did find that as soon as I moved up, my concentration became more intense, and my flying improved dramatically.
Not to say that I am even close to being competitive in the Expert class around these parts.
After you get your butt kicked a few times by the big shots, you get used to it and have a blast anyway.
Its an honor to fly against the likes of Brett, Ted, Dave, Howard, Paul and the rest of the so called "'Stunt Elitists"
I like the rivalry of the Central Valley Stunt Mafia Vs the Buttafucco Stunt Team.
Take care and I'll see ya soon.

Larry...
As for moving up...who knows...I won't say 'fergitaboutit'...
Hope to see you at Jimby's Meet N' Meat if I can make it...and if the new Diva has been flown by then...
I still need to get 'Central Valley Stunt Mafia' T-shirts made...I've had the graphics nearly done for awhile now..

I think it would work better with a .40VF.
-
Rich,
Looks awesome, Im glad I'm no longer the only other person to see it!!! The weight is awesome and the power train will serve you well.
Regarding the Move,
When you decide to go, the mindset changes, you announce to yourself that you're an "expert" at the event. Your focus, commitment, desire, all increase. I would bet that your scores will automatically break the 500 mark. Don't hold back until every advanced event is won handily.
Personally, I never won a single event until I became an Expert.... Not even a third.
Making the move was a tremendous thing. I lit me up!! Do it! Don't look back.
Come on up the air is good. Just believe.

Beautiful Plane Richard - OUTSTANDING
Regarding Expert - I fly my best when I fly against better flyers. Move up. My sloppiest flites are when no one is looking. My best flights are when I feel the pressure of competing against high end talent.

I remember showing up to a contest in Phoenix in the mid 90's having flown advanced at several contests in the area the previous year. Jim Hoffman greeted me with a warm welcome and a stern "your flying expert today...and from now on" :o. I sure didn't feel ready but found the challenges of flying against the southwest's best very rewarding. Move up and have fun.

That's what she's set up for Howard! Before I started building my Diva, I flew PTG's #7 yellow 'Skinny' with the .40 VF and I was so impressed I couldn't wait to get started... :o

For Keith McCrary...I've watched PTG's Divas flying with Magnum XLS .36 power, and maybe even judged them. I always thought they flew well, but lacked the "authority" needed to cope with less than ideal wind conditions. I would suggest the Bob Hunt "Europa" or Randy Smith's 40 sized designs for your .36's with the tuned pipes. y1 Steve
PS: Youse guys keep encouraging Richard W. to move up to Xpert!!!

I agree with Steve here. Robby Hunt's Europa is a great plane for the Magnum .36 on a pipe. Randy's Satona, Shrike, etc., would work, too. A Vector .40, piped, would be awesome, IMHO since it has the same aerodynamic package as the larger SV series.
We have run the Magnum .36XLS quite a bit and it really shines in models like the '59 Ares, Oriental, etc.. More than enough power to handle rough air with those size planes. I rank it close (different run style) to the Aero Tiger .36.
Big Bear.

I flew the original in some moderately challenging air and it was not lacking for HP.

Rich, are you the first to build a version of Phil's Diva?
Besides Phil
Is that the "history has been made" reference?

Steve, Bill and Brett, thanks for the info.. I have the plans for a Steve Buso Vegas, designed for a side to rear Magnum .40 at @ 560 sq. inches. I also have the plans for a Staris designed for a PA 40 (not the ultra lite). This plane is about 640 sq. inches. Both are smaller than the Diva so it should work out.
