The Philly contest!
« on: July 29, 2019, 07:57:07 PM »
It was a hit one this weekend for the Philly Flyers contest with temps well into the 90's both days. I got at the field around 2pm on Friday. The guys had the field cut as nice as a golf course! I helped them rope off a few places and then the fun started! 3 of us took turns putting up some practice flights. Saturday was filled with Old Time Stunt and Profile at Neshaminy Park. There were a couple casualties on Saturday. Philly Skip waved off a rich running  flight. But he did entertain us with a few stunts and the next thing you know he had a lawn dart, and it didn't phase him one bit. He was right back out there completing his two flights. There were no Beginners either day.  Intermediate was won by Fred Quedenfeld and Rich Gorrill in 2nd place. Advanced was 1st Shawn Cook 2nd was myself and 3rd was Walt. Shawn put up one pretty pattern that I watch in awe! I tried but I couldn't catch him!  Expert was 1st Dan Banjock and 2nd being John Saunders. Hopefully someone will post a picture of the Old Time Stunt results. Somehow I missed that!

Sunday the PAMPA competition was held at Benjamin Rush Park with a great turnout! Again the fields were cut beautifully!  Bob Hunt came out and showed us all how it's done as he won Expert! I must say it's mesmerizing watching Bobs solid lines in the sun,  his flying is pretty fun to watch too!  There was a little bit of wind that concerned a few earthworms at times but no one wrecked!  I myself even had the earthworms diving for cover on a few practice flights.  There was some great competition going on in all the classes.  Intermediate waa won by Rich Martinez, 2nd Fred Q. And 3rd Jack Rosemere. Advanced was a exciting battle to end! I won 1st place, 2nd was Rick Wetzel and 3rd was a new up-and-comer in Advanced Frank Donnelly (congrats Frank!) Expert 1st Bob Hunt 2nd Joe Daly and 3rd Dan Banjock.

I would like to thank all the guys that put together a great contest and I can't wait to do it again next year!

Hopefully Rich Martinez will add a few photos to this, he got sone great shots on Sunday.

Chris thanks so much for posting your report and pics.I'm certain that other folks pics will be posted in the next few days.

FOR GREAT PICS OF THE AIRPLANES FLOWN ON SUNDAY GO TO THE PHILLY FLIERS FB PAGE. Rich Martinez and others have posted over there.

Also,as CD and club VP. I'm going to "lobby" to try to change the dates of our contest to maybe something in late April or early May. Most of us out there are old farts and we just can't take the heat. Three years in a row the temps have been in the low to mid 90's.

Also I have to thank the NE Philly R/C Club for preparing a beautiful flying surface and providing delicious food and drinks!

                                                                                                                            Cheers,Skip

Skip : Good idea. Maybe there is an open date in Late Sept or early Oct. The winds tend to be more gentle in the early Fall and temps alot more tolerable. They're also typically drier months.
