In our usual tradition here in Northern California we are keeping as quiet as possible about up coming contests and their dates to ensure only the anointed few know what is happening and when.
The next “Secret Contest” is rumored to be at Woodlands this month.
Can anyone guess what its name is? or what the dates are?

Dennis wins the prize for "blowing the gaff" and guessing correctly.

I tried to search "stunt 25 rules" and didn't pop up with anything useful. Does anyone have them handy?

If you don't have an airplane, you can fly the Skyray.

Maximum 25 size engine
Standard Muffler Any muffler
No pipes
Engine should be stock with no more mods than the addition of a venturi and needle valve assembly.
That’s pretty much it.

Ok got it. Dumb question, but relating to me flying the sky ray; a tongue muffler is out?
Never mind. I read through the rules. I think I'm golden!

There's no restriction on the muffler, aside from not having an "explicit" tuned pipe. What the stock 20FP muffler might be doing is open to debate...
Anyway, I meant fly *my* Skyray, which might have either a 20 or 25 by the time Saturday rolls around.

My bad, Brett is right, any muffler is allowed. I am working with the early rules which were changed.
As an aside, does anyone know for sure how old the Fox 15 Hurl event is? I heard tell this year it celebrates 50 years Its “semicentennial”.

Hi uncle Bob, as I recall, the first Fox .15 Hurl was held in 2000. Maybe Fox hurler extrodenar Brett Buck or Uncle Jimby can correct me here.
I do recall that left handed Mark Macielli won the very first Hurl.
Even though Mark has only won the event one time, the Hurl Committee has considered inducting Mark as the fist inductee into the Fox .15 Hurl Hall of Fame.
Other considerations are Brett Buck with four wins, Larry Fernandez with four wins, Phil Grandson with three wins and Robert Harness with three wins.
Even though there are four multiple winners, there is only one first time winner, and in my mind, this was a historical event and Mark should be remembered as a hero and statesman for something we had no idea would become such a big event

Well that’s a surprise, I was told that the Hurl was started back in 1968 on old pastureland.
The first ever Hurl was by one "Charles Fooks the 15th".
Goes to show . .

I know, I know. I'm a total dork, but I'm beyond excited right now. We booked a hotel about 8 miles from the field! We're totally in this weekend!

Secret Contest Field Report: Should be in pretty good shape, final mowing Thursday. Got some water last week so there is actually lots of green. Most cracks, holes and (center circle) trenches filled in, smoothed out, but not necessarily grown over by grass. Still, considering the drought conditions we have had this year, not too bad. New cover for shade structure has been purchased but if you have a portable shade canopy you may want to consider bringing it. Rumor even has it that the Circle Jerk Stunt Team will be making an appearance. ;D
There have been a few questions about the special events. Stunt 25 has been explained. NorCal profile stunt is notable for its lack specifics. That is intentional. If it looks like a profile...fly it. Ringmasters to Imitations, all are welcome. The planes to look out for are any Pathfinders and Paul Pomposo's OS 35S powered Coyote...and of course, Brett's Skyray. Should be a good contest. 8)

Balsa Butcher, take a look at Dane's profile. You may find you have a mutual interest aside from model planes.
Here's hoping we have a reasonably clam weekend weather-wise and fly some stunt.

We did a little yoyo demo at the kids school since I took the day off. All done and heading to the contest!
