This is how the open-cockpit Vector came out.
38.5 oz without tank or tip weight.

I have just encountered a problem.
I intend to use a 6oz round Sullivan tank.
The tank is about 1/8 larger diameter than the fuselage width. I don't think that using a big hammer will make it fit.

Can I use a heat gun or bake the tank in an oven to soften it a bit?
More to the point--- will I have any success with squeezing the tank that way?

Pen bladders on FF planes are sure easier to make work.

I believe...this tank will fit much better.
John has many sizes to match your tank Needs.

My Vector OS LA 46 Combo got one and works just "GREAT".

But.... I don't have one of those. If it's a true 2" wide it wouldn't go. I'm a bit shy of 2" inside width on the fuselage.

I have a 4oz slant front plastic that would fit but I worry about enough fuel with 4oz. I have a 5oz metal that is plumber for a profile but I have no desire to replumb it.

I have never tried heating and reforming a standard Sullivan tank. I'm not liking the odds on that one--but if you are at the "nothing left to lose" stage, let us know how it turns out. These are made from polyethylene which is a thermoplastic resin, so it should be technically feasible. I just worry about getting a lot of distortion from uneven heating. If I was going to try it, I would put the tank between two board in a vise and try to heat and squeeze to try to keep it straight--kind of stress relieving as you go. Maybe.

On the other hand, they come right out and tell you that you can use a heat gun on the flex tank:

"Flextanks are molded from a special flexible, translucent polymer blend making them easier to fit into tight places and are very durable. They can be reshaped with a heat gun if desired. Flextanks are for glow fuel only."

http://sullivanproducts.com/?s=flex+tank

The 4 oz. flex tank is nominally 2" wide, including the vent bump, in the orientation that we would use. It will squeeze down by an 1/8" pretty easily. (I have one in my hand right now.)
they have a 6 oz. version of same. My Vector will take a 4-1/2" long tank, possibly longer, so you should be able to fit a 6 oz tank. The dimensions in their table do not include the length of the cap or lines. I just pushed the 4 oz. tank into the plane--I didn't bother with a heat gun.

Good luck,

Dave

Hi Dan,

just give you my ARF Vector Picture.
The innerwith of tankbay measures exactly 53mm .
2 inches = 25,4mm x 2= 50,8mm which gives you a inner gap of 2,2mm between sidewalls.
The 2inch wide metal tank should fit just perfect.

cheers

What sort of engine requires 6 ounces for the pattern?  A Vector normally runs with a  .40 or a .46 glo.
89 years, but still going (sort of)

It's an LA46. I never figured that 6oz was needed but that 4oz might not be quite enough.

I'm looking at a 4oz slant front Sullivan tank.

4 ounces of 10% runs me out of fuel in the clover.....and did for Bill Rich as well....he switched to 5%...I have some coming.
My new Vector ARF/LA 46 has a 5 oz. tank.
62' lines and that fancy Thunder Tiger prop.

Well, the 4oz slant front tank isn't gonna work. For several reasons.
There is a plan in place.........

Well, the heat gun seems to have solved the problem.
I have squeezed (squoze) the 6oz tank so that it will fit.
RTF the plane will be under 41oz.
