Title: The Magician from the southern hemisphere...
Post by: Claudio Chacon on November 20, 2012, 05:19:24 AM
Hello guys,
This is a Magician I've built for a friend of mine.
Traditional Silkspan/dope finish with 2k PPG clear on top. The reliable OS 25 LA in the nose, APC 9"x6".
We had LOTS of fun with it last week end. It flies like a charm... :D

Claudio,

Nice work! Kudos!

You did a great job with that model.

Couple of questions.

The tank size? How long a run do you get with that 25? I see what you did for adjustments, didn't come that way?

What brand dope?

Checks. painted or vinyl?

Wing, you added half ribs?

Weight?

Really nice!!

Charles

Beautiful Magician Claudio! H^^
So many good memories for me with the Magician. I built my first one at the age of eleven. I remember trying to get each rib lined up perfectly for top performance LOL. I used my Enya 29 on that one. I still consider it to be the best stunt trainer around, even after all these years.

I like it...very nice workmanship. I love the way my Magician flies with a LA .46 & flaps...one of the best profiles out there to learn the pattern.

Thanks, Charles.
The fuel tank is a 4 oz. Brodak's (non uniflow). No timing was done (yet) since the plane owner is in his first flying steps, so we just filled up the tank to check first for the "dizziness sindrome" ;D
I use nitrate dope all the way in all my planes (plain old good quality aeronautic dope made in Argentina, with no specific brand) For the colors y use the same dope adding nitrocelulose pigments. On top of that, a couple of thin coats of PPG two part poliurethane automotive clear, which is absolutely fuelproof up to 15% nitro.
The checkerboards are Monokote self adhesive decorative stripes. The license is vinyl.
No half ribs were added. The plane was built strictly as it comes in the Brodak kit.
The weight? I don't know! My scale was broken by the time I finished the plane.

Your Brodak Magician looks mucho better than my version of the Brodak Magician.   I went with all Brodak products and tried to build as close to the kit as I could.   The little Brodak .25 is one terrific little engine and the plane flies so much better than I can.  Since the grand kids have taken it over I never get to fly it anymore.   Guess I will have to break down and build the Umland kit I have.   Did I say your Magician looks great.

Joseph and Jim, I really appreciate your compliments!
Indeed, The Magician is a very smooth flier...perfect for training puposes with a OS 25LA on the nose, a "plug and play" powerplant.
8) ĄCool combo! 8)
