Well, mine is a 30lb Maine Coon cat. He can't jump as high as the workbench, or the chair or the couch ... He's a, uh, Big Boy.

This is Luke, I don't worry about him jumping on the bench, but I have to chain him when we fly in the back yard, he wants to Kill the birds!

I had a cat once, well, actually it was my sister's cat. It knocked my very first trophy from the shelf and broke it, then went on to curl up in a wing I had started. I was gonna kill it, Dad wouldn't let me, he likes cats too. But, he also told my sister that if that cat damaged anything else, ever, she might never see it again.

What ever it is I don't do it in the house since I got my shop back.

The two pooches are my company in the shop and every place in the house. With single digit temps the chihuahua needed a coat.

What worries me is that you with that black hood may pick up a staff or sickle (your choice)

My buddy is a German Shepard that loves me and family and thinks everyone else is food.

She likes to chase micro r/c in the back yard and did manage to knock one down so after discovering my displeasure
she now will turn her head at the last instant before contact.
Noisy Glow control line she doesn't even notice...smart dogie!

I am allowed to build in the house.
Its one of the only ways the wife can visit with as she doesn't like to sit in the shop

Our Great Dane is a mere puppy slightly over 12 months old.
Bless his little heart, he only weighs in at 120 lbs.His predecessor weighed 150+.
and was a prince. He never bothered anything.
The new one is sorta like peter rabbits, brain in Frankinstiens, body. I hope he calms down before one of us gets killed.

I. went to a Great Dane convention in Chattanooga Tn. at the Chat. Choo Choo . There were over 600
Danes at the hotel. All 600 of them together, made no more comotion or did more damage than Windy at the nats on a .thursday!

We have two beagles, and God love'em, but every time that I'm in my workshop, I worry more about what the 2 of them are getting into, than about what I'm working on at the time.
With companions like that though, I really can"t complain.

You have to admit- that dog has a bit of the " Bad Boy image"- as evidenced by the Harley Davidson collar!

MY wife has a Silky Terrier- 15lb body and 100lb attitude- will bark and growl at anything from the safety of the car or upstairs window!

Worst thing is that when I get home for the weekend the dog thinks I'm the guy they hire to pay un-divided attention to her. Walk me, throw the ball, take me for a ride!

Wife like to bathe and brush and trim her all pretty - then i walk her around the pond and let her roll on dead stuff, dig for moles / gophers, and generally get all stinky messy. Then momma strts the bath again!

Hi Randy,
It is usually my wife that says those dreaded words! I then have to retire to shed and light stove. My very large black cat called Thomas will usually come with me (he has a cat basket in front of stove!). He will periodically jump up on the workbench and inspect the job in hand with great interest. When satisfied that I am doing things correctly, he will hop down and curl up in said basket. I just have to chuckle at this, he makes a good boss!

Yeah, I have to do it in the house/my bedroom(office). My wife was in there just the other day and counted 20 airplanes. Not counting the 48" WS Ringmaster I have on the table. I also have 20 guns 4 bows(maybe 50 arrows) ...my old '99' model HP computer, maybe 100 sets of deer antlers, 3 turkey fans, an R/C boat, and R/C yellow sail plane[hahaha]my guitar, all my tools, including bandsaw, bench grinder, scroll saw, drill press, and compressor. There's 3 chests of drawers, one contains my building supplies/monocoat etc. The others my clothes. I have 25 Fishing Rods in there and at least 5 tackle boxes. My dog Toby comes in there all the time and so far the only thing he's interested in is my waste basket, and my 25" color TV. Everything else I do outside.

I LOVE the thought of 30 pound cats!!! Wow, gotta get me one of those for a companion to my "little" 16 pound buddy here! My daughter has a 22 pounder, (my guy's half brother,) and I thought HE was a big cat. That's awesome.
There's the old addage, and a true one, that dogs have owners, cats have staff that must be a riot for you.

HI Randy,

Great looking puppy! I am a dog lover myself. We have two now, both are "rescues",sorta. A 90 lb Weimador (mom was full blooded Weimaraner, Dad was full blooded Lab). A friend had a litter when the neighbor's Lab snuck into the pen.... and we got him that way. He has the body of his mom but the head and feet of his Dad, plus he's all black, not silver. We've never had a sweeter pup! But heaven forbid a stranger comes around........... at 90 lbs and only 2 years old, he is VERY rambunctious!

The "little" one is a Dachshund. When we found him, he was absolutely nothing but skin and bones, he almost didn't make it. He gained 6 lbs. in a real short time, but we are not allowing him to get fat! LOL!! Named him Max. He has to go with me wherever I am and sits on a pillow beside me in the shop or office. He lets me know when I have to pet him! When we brought Gail home, he climbed into the bed and stayed with her for almost a week, wouldn't leave her. Buddy, the big one, stays on the bed all day with her. Can you say "protection'? Dogs DO know when something is wrong!

I guess I'll have to post a picture of mine. My wife calls him Big. I just call him Wide Load.

If you like the idea of a 30lb cat, I'll have to see if I can dig up the picture I have of my Maine Coon and my neighbor's Savannah Cat. His cat tips the scales at about 50lbs and makes my Maine Coon look like a kitten. Here's a picture, though my neighbor's cat is quite a bit broader (fatter).

Here's my Maine Coon, a runt I guess, only 19 lbs. at last weigh-in. Cats can be very protective too--wifey was feeling sick, lying in floor, Smokey wouldn't leave her.

Big Bear

This guy's my pal, a Humane Society adoption. We looked at 3 puppies and he was the last, we hooked up in the first 10 seconds. He likes my wife and people in general, but he and I are the buds.

We had a Beagleman (Dob and Beagle) looked like a Dob with a Beagle's head, the sweetest dog I ever had. Diamond was to me my wife's dog, and for a large part was, but I was the alpha male of the pack, so I got preference. In later years she got cancer and we kept her alive with pain killers, she wasn't suffering and the vet said she could live out what she had left in comfort and happiness. I had neck surgery and for about 10 days could not leave the couch, I was proped up in the corner and even slept there. Diamond stayed with me until I started to get around and then took a dramatic turn for the worse bleeding from both ends. We took her in to have her put down. When I took her where they directed me a young lady spread a blanket on the floor then asked if Diamond would bite. I told her it would be more likely she'd kiss. She reached for Diamond's paw and true to form, recieved a sweet soft wet kiss on the cheek, she teared up and had to step back and compose herself before she could administer the drug. Diamond slipped away out of my life, I still miss her. She took care of me until I was OK, then she knew it was time to go. Can't help loving these wonderful creatures, I still tear up telling this story.

Wow Randy, That hurts.

In my case do not know if I would have made it through Chemo with out Jazz our German Shepard.

She was there for me when no one else could be(work and such).

My children, youngest is 25, claim to be jealous of the way I spoil Jazz.
I tell the to 'watch this' and give Jazz a command.
Then I say 'See, I only had to tell her once.'

This is Pepper. The first dog I have ever had that would keep me company in the shop. I do still keep and eye on him though. He is part Beagle and part something larger.

I love that, what a great answer, I'll use it myself if you don't mind. I have 6 kids, the youngest is 33.

Even though my surgery wasn't life threatening, having the old girl right there was a tremendous comfort that I can't explain to non-dog people. She would sit with her head proped on the arm of the couch and just watch me, keeping tabs on me, napping only for short times the awakening to resume her "watch". Normally a dog that would prompt petting by nuzzling your hand, she instead would simply touch my hand in one way or another as if to say, "I understand, and I'm right here."

When my wife had a brain tumor removed I had to feed our dog Mysti by the bed, she refused to leave Donna except to relieve herself. Animals are so great, and I think it wonderful of God to provide such loving friends for us! I just wish I could live up to being the man our pets think I am!

I'm a dog guy but we do have two cats and though I love em I could do without them. A few years back I had a Bob Cat and after him my wife and I moved up to a Moutain Lion Cub. He was a riot but he grew, and grew and finally reached 75 pounds! We had him for awhile but then it got to be too much; his littler box was one of those kiddie pools you see in Wal-Mart!! Ever seen a 75 pound cat hunched up and pooping in a kiddie pool? Not pretty, looks like a Great Dane relieved himself in there! Great pet but we eventually donated him to an animal park.

Randy, don't feel bad about tearing up when telling your story, I tear up reading it. We had to leave the demented poodle with a neighbor while we went on a Christmas vacation. Never again a vacation like that even tho I did miss the poodle. We wonder how we pick our pets or they pet us. I remember the story of a little who's mother promised her a puppy. After numerous trips to pet stores and pounds her mother told if she didn't find one this day that was it. Seems they went into a pound with a new batch of puppies. After looking at what was in sight she looked at her mother was going to say. Seems a little puppy came out from behind a box and ran to her. She picked it up and held it a minute or two, looked at her mother and stated this is the puppy. Her mother asked her how she knew. She said the puppy sighed and settled into my arms. That is what happened to me and my demented poodle. The chihuahua came from a side walk vendor in Nogales Mexico. Except she was supposed to be the wifes puppy. I guess I have the pups spoiled.

I've had over 20 chemo shots now, and it takes almost all day. When I walk in that front door, the one who's jumping up and down barking, is not my wife or 10yr old daughter......but my dog Toby. And when I lay down on the couch to rest....it's exactly as you say....he stands there with his head propped on the couch beside me. And he doesn't jump on me like normal. but touches me with his nose......checking, caressing...comforting. But even more profound than that; a few days ago I fell down at the pond, in the loose gravel, and couldn't get up.....I whistled for my horse and in about a minute, he showed up. He was looking all around and when I spoke his name he looked down the gravel bank, and then carefully weaved his way down to me and lowered his head....when I reached up and took hold of his halter, he picked me right up like I was nothing. Good things to reflect on for sure!

I have had several people just recently challenge my novels as to whether a horse could be as smart as I painted them, I always reply to them with stories of such events, and, if you don't mind, I'll use your story as well. I often tell folks a horse is just a big, mischievous dog you can ride! They are lovers!

You might've guessed, my horse Cisco is....a Paint...LOL. Thanks for the concern, and although my health is not the greatest, the Chemo[Avastin] shots are in my right eyeball to control a mass of blood vessels growing behind my retina. As it gets to a certain point of growth, it causes leakage, and my eyesight suffers. But I still have a great left eye, so all in all, I'm doing almost 100.........say: 75!

I also have a dog (if you call an ADHD Husky a dog - I miss my 130lb Malamute) and 2 hayburners. Several other animals that visit but they are mostly the local landowners: raccoons, a badger, a black bear and an obnoxious cougar along with various other varmits. I do love living in the woods.

Mine would break into the house to get at the dog food and the dogs wanted the Horse feed

Have you ever come home to a find 3 Quarters a Walker ,Cow pony and a Shetland inside?
Getting them out is the disaster, putting the door back on is easy.
