Title: The 2013 trip to Brodak's. Sunday, June 9.
Post by: De Hill on June 09, 2013, 06:48:47 PM
Elwyn and I left Tulsa at 6 am. We ran into rain at Springfield Mo. The rain was so hard that everyone slowed down to 60 mph. We finally got out of the rain and drove about 20 minutes to outrun it for awhile. At Rolla Mo. we fueled old blue van up and got caught in the rain again. It took about 20 minutes to get back out of it.

We saw a lot (20) of road killed deer on I-70 this year. We also saw about 20 roadkilled Armadillos. We paid $4.09 for a gallon of gas in Martinsville Indiana. Pretty steep!

We drove 810 miles today, and we are tired. We are in a red roof inn about 30 miles outside of Columbus, Ohio.

Tomorrow will be easier, we hope!

I made it to the Royal Inn just north of the I-70 and I-270 interchange.  I should be on the site by noon tomorrow.

We're slowly arching our way over the backbone of the middle of the country. About 5:30 we passed somebody that looked a lot like Tony Kubes.

Just outside of Columbus is about right for a days drive from Tulsa. I've done it many times going home to see family in Washington, PA.
What's interesting is all the old Rte. 66 relics still around. Ghost buildings and attractions from the 50's-60's. Especially in Missouri.

Armadillos? Never seen a live one.

I still find people every once in a while that still don't believe that we have armadillos in Missouri now. When we were moving a load of furniture and stuff for my daughter Mary Kate when she was in college in Springfield, MO, I pulled over to check the load on the roof, and had her get out of the car to help, and purposely did so next to a squashed example on the side of the road so she could get a ggod look! I blame the little critters for believing that they really do have a full suit of body armor!
Everyone that is traveling , have a safe trip,

I don't think Tony is making the trip this year.

Bill Lee tells this better than I can.  He believes and knows how dumb the armadillos are.  He told me that you will drive over them and they are so slow to react that they will finally figure it our about the time the transmission is directly overhead.  Then they will jump up in fright and commit suicide to the bottom side of your vehicle.  Bill tells it better.
