Time for some custom cut kits.....
« on: October 21, 2011, 05:47:30 PM »
Well the Jaguar kits are in the hands of those who ordered them and the Buccaneer kits will be gone soon.

I am now making time to do some custom hand cutting for a few folks and if you have wanted a kit of a plane you have not had time to do, I will be happy to cut it for you if you can send me a copy of the plans.

I will look at the plans and get back with you on a quote and you can decide if you want the kit or not.

Building season is coming up so contact me if there is anything you want cut.

Thanks

Mike

When you say "custom hand cutting" do you mean one-off laser short kits or hand cut parts (ribs, formers)??

If you do a little bit every day it will get done, or you can do it tomorrow.

Hi Doug

Normally when you are cutting one or two kits of a certain design for someone, it is not cost effective to have it laser cut. The reason is that in order to laser cut a kit you have to have a CAD file developed which is not cheap and then you have to pay a laser cutter his time to cut the parts and then of course you have the cost of the material and shipping charges back and forth.  When you do a "kit run" of numerous kits of a design, then it usually makes it cost effective for the customer and the kit maker although there is very little profit for the kit maker.

So to answer your question, I will be handcutting all the shaped parts and formers for the kit.  The cost varies depending upon the amount of material and time for labor.  That is why I have to have a copy of the plans to do a take off so I can give the customer a cost for cutting it.

I hope this answered your question.  I am glad you asked because I am sure other folks have wondered the same thing.

Thanks for asking

Mike

Ok thanks! I saw your ad above your avatar...

I'll definitely put you in my notes as scratch building for me is tedious due to work, free time and home obligations, etc. Kits - I can manage that.

Thanks again.
