Title: Thanks to the Portland Guys
Post by: Jason Greer on September 16, 2013, 08:33:33 PM
I just wanted to publicly thank the Delta Park group for welcoming a stranger into their flying session this morning. Thanks to Tim Wescott for the invitation and the oportunity to fly while in town for a conference.  I hope our paths cross again some day.

Thanks,
Jason

I lent Jason my Flight Streak*, not realizing how good a flyer he is.

He went out, with an unfamiliar airplane, and put in a flight that would be good for around 440-460 points, depending on who's doing the judging.  Dave Royer, who judges quite a bit around here was commenting "yup -- all his mistakes are Advanced mistakes".  The consensus was that he flies stunt better than all of us who showed up, and if he ever comes out to compete I'm to lend him the same plane, but I'm supposed to fill the tank all the way so we only have to compete against 14 maneuvers and no pattern points.

Thanks for coming out Jason -- it's always nice to have new faces at the field.

I'm hoping that my wife and I will be there Fri morning early.  The maiden flight of my F-7-F 2.4 radio system will take place there (again hopfully) Over the years I have found the Portland guys to be among the best that are.

It does a heart good to hear of the "GOOD" guys who are involved in this hobby when a lot of "BAD" items seem to be the biggest discussions.  In this shrinking world of C/L, and especially STUNT, we need to really play up the fact that the best guys around anywhere can be found "in our world".

One characteristic of good guys is that they are careful of with whom they associate.  No Portland guys came to our last contest.

It's because you have not only a past World's champion F2B competitor, but a future one.  Modesty demands that we not push ourselves into such rarefied company.

(I'm immodest enough that I was planning on going, but I woke up that Saturday feeling sicker than a dog).

I have to chime in, the Portland guys are about the best, laid back, open and helpful bunch you will ever meet. I spent weeks at a time working up there, and flew with them every chance I got. It was great!

Went through a few planes- but finally learned the Beginner Pattern after 20 years of crashing.
They admired my never quit attitude, and I helped clear out their stores of used planes!

Been a while since I flew with them, need to get an assignment back in Portland.....

I have to report that our plans have to be canceled. Perhaps next week.
