I went flying today.
I hadn't expected to go flying today -- the ground's a bit too wet, and the weather too unstable for folks to make it out to my RC club's flying field. But dangit, the Spring Tuneup is just a few weeks away, and I really wanted to show up there still capable of flying a plane!
So, about 1:00 my wife says "do you want to go flying?".
"Well, yes," sez I, "but no one will be there".
"I'll go -- I can sit in the car and knit."
"I need someone to launch"
"I'll launch, if you show me how".
Now I know why I married this woman. She even watched my maneuvers and commented (accurately!) on how well I did them -- she mentioned that CLPA is just like Dressage, except with Dressage you don't have to worry about crashing. So she had experiencing knowing when a line was supposed to be straight, and a maneuver round, etc.
So I got some pretty crappy flights in -- it's got a new engine installation that I needed to dial in, and I gave her some bad advice about giving me advice on tip weight, so I got to discover the joys of really excessive tip weight. But on the last flight I at least had the motor going well, and managed to squeeze out a recognizable pattern.
But better crappy flights now than three weeks from now!

Tim,
at least you will have a few flights under your belt, its not likely I will see any flying till I get to Portland,, we had snow again twice last week, it didnt stick, to long, but man the ground is just a marsh!

Yea, it was beautiful yesterday. I was, of course, working. Today is rain followed by rain. More tomorrow then supposed to be clear on Monday. Joy.

So, Mark, it's only 515 miles from Pullman to Klamath Falls. Come on down and we will get you in the air if we have to hand launch in the snow in a 30 MPH wind. It's been pretty poopy, buy I have a snow free soccer field available.

I think the attached picture speaks for itself, except the caption should indicate how much my helpmate really helps.

Had rain, sleet and snow here in KC on Sunday. Now if my wife held my greasy, oily plane for a launch, I would have to have DNA testing done. Glad you guys got some flights in. Got mine in while in Tuscon. %^@

North Texas weather is generally good for C/L flying. Except for Jan which is usually cold with ice and snow. Then Feb. is cold with blustery winds. March is 20 to 25 mph winds with gusts up to 40 mph. Then comes April with it usual rains. May has lots of thunderstorms with big bolts of lightening. June starts to get hot with hardly a breeze. July is super hot and all flying stops at 10 am or earlier. August is still hot but by now we fly early in the mornings. Sept. starts to get really nice with warm temps and lite breezes. Oct is super nice the first of the month and then declines into cooler and breezy. Nov. the leaves start to fall and the yard is full of my leaves, my neighbor leaves, and leaves from people in the next block that I don't even know. In Dec. there are just too many Christmas trees everywhere and we anxiously await Jan. so they all hit the recycle piles. Seriously though we generally enjoy some pretty nice flying weather here in the north Texas area. I always fly by myself. I have heard that there are some C/L pilots in this county but they are hard to tell which ones they are with those radio control boxes in their hands. My stooges are very simple as the name might imply. I use 4 - 2 x 6s about 18" long nailed to one another with a bracket off a screen door hydraulic closure assembly. A piece of push rod fits the little pin opening just fine. Pull the line at the end and off the plane goes. Works great every time. Now if all of old retired dogs could just live within say 25 miles of a common flying site we could have a great time flying, food, and fellowship without the use of these electronic gadgets.
