I have started this a few times, and every time it got so long and unwieldy I scrapped it. I guess I need to keep it simple!
Some folks know, Shaheen and I came intending to participate in VSC'06. Before the event we were in a car accident, resulting in my wonderful Shaheen spending 6 weeks in hospital in Tucson.
Apart from all the stress of the medical aspects, (Shaheen had broken ankle, fractured cervical vertebra, and shattered lumbar vertebra), The UMC hospital initially fouled up checking our insurance, and presented us with enormous bills which we could not instantly cover. It took a couple of days to sort this. But this post is to acknowledge the wonderful support given by our wonderful community, both moral support and with most generous offers of financial help. We have to thank, (in alphabetical order), Bill and Elaine Heyworth, Keith and Barbara Trostle, Larry Scarinzi, Lou and Linda Wolgast, Mike Keville, Rickii Pyatt, and Ted Fancher. Also my old pal of 50 years, Dave Balch, now with Boeing Helicopters, who sought us out in the hospital with great detective work.
We also wish to thank the many folks who chipped in in any way, who we are unaware of, and apologise if I've forgotten anyone.
The icing on the cake, Shaheen is now 100% recovered, which is quite simply a miracle considering what we know and saw in the x-rays. All she has now is slightly less flexibility in the spine due to the titanium plates inserted, and aches and pains due to the inevitable ageing process!
This post only gives the tip of the iceberg. So much detail is not given, but it becomes so long. For the record, when our insurance did kick-in it was amazing. They met Shaheen's medical bills 100%. They picked up my hotel bill during this time. They got our luggage from CA to AZ when it was time to come home, and they flew a nurse out from England, and flew all 3 of us back to Blighty BA Club Class, then transport from London Heathrow to our front door. Thanks also to Fortis Insurance, Eastleigh, Hampshire.
Oh yes, we'll be back! We hope for VSCXX !
