Hope to see you/meet you there!

I was planning on being there, but it depends on how the surgery goes on the ear.  You guys/gals have fun.

I would love to be there but my tendinitis in my flying shoulder has not completely gone away. I tried to fly last week and the pain does not make it worth the trouble. I have not flown any all summer because of that and the heat and humidity. Gett'n old I guess. We will see how things go and might try to come down just for the fun. Hope you guys have great weather and good flying as this is one great contest.

Hey Jim,  that's what the doctor said was wrong with my left shoulder.  I asked if that was because of old age or what?  He stated it doing the same routine hour upon hour or days.  He prescribed Naproxen Sodium,  brand name equate from Wally World Pharmacy.  One pill twice a day.

Yeah Doc. I have been taking ibuprofen which seems to have helped but not sure there isn't something else wrong like a little arthritis there. Old age ain't for sissies ya know. I have been so blessed I cannot complain. Just cannot do some of the things I use to do. I really miss the flying though. I could not have flown much this summer anyway as the heat and humidity have been so bad. Hopefully my shoulder will heal and the weather will let me fly this fall as the weather cools and the humidity goes down.

Would love to have gone to Tulsa as I have a great time there.  St Louis is this weekend and won't make it either.   Seems the old pocket book keeps getting depleted.  So have a great fun time and post pictures for us stay at homes,

Couldn't ask for better weather, low 80's and 5mph wind. Couple guys from out of town came in yesterday and are having a good time getting airplanes dialed in.

Greetings from Tulsa!

Arrived this afternoon. Guys were already putting planes in the air and enjoying the good conditions for flying.  Don't know what to expect tomorrow for entrants... but hopefully a good turnout.

Ate a delicious supper over at the Prez (Joe Gilbert) n' First Lady's (Colleen) house: lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, delicious salad... and desserts. Lands did we have desserts!! Lots of C/L BS'n goin' on around the table and three of us got to talkin' combat times from the days of yore. (Don Cranfill, Joe Bowman from Camden, AR, and yours truly.)  We were tearin' up the air!

Pilots meeting at 8:30 AM in the morning... then it's flying time!  The First Lady (I think some of the other ladies are pitching in, too) will be providing lunch and I'm sure it will be as good as it was last year!

I will try to take a few pictures and share later, but hopefully our photographer Elwyn Aud will be there, 'cause his pictures are superb!

This is one of the truly good contests. If you didn't make it this year, you gotta' plan to be here next year!

Good pictures, Elwyn!

It was a very good day for flying.  Several very close runs for 1st - 3rd.  Only one mishap that I know of.  The First Lady did a SUPERB job on the lunch meal!  (Gotta' get that recipe!)  Lots of good camaraderie and lots of good flying.

Suprisingly, there are beginning to be more specators showing up. I even met two spectators from Fort Smith that are C/L fliers. This means I may have a couple guys in my area to fly some C/L with now!

Tomorrow is PAMPA Stunt with 4 classes being flown.  Then it's over for another year and that's that!

You really need to make plans to be here next year... one of the best fields and contests going.  (Of course, I'm prejudice!)

More later!

Thanks for all the pictures and info. I sure missed being there but I took Lova to the doctor yesterday for another round of antibiotics for her allergys, and shots for her arthritic knees. Not a great summer for her or I. My tendititis is better in my shoulder but not gone. Getting old ain't for sissies I guess. Glad you had such great weather and watched on the webcam some. Most of all I miss all the great people that come to this contest and the people that put it on. They just do not get any better.

Hi Jim,

I remember you dominating ignition stunt at 3 VSC's. You had a barndoor stunter powered by an ignition Anderson Spitfire. The wind was low, and no one could touch your score!

Thanks De, I needed that. Those were the years I seemingly could not make many mistakes. That plane on those days just sort of flew itself. It was just humid enough in the morning Tucson air to keep the plane slowed down but still flying great. The old Anderson Spitfire started right up everytime and ran like a swiss watch. It was just like I could draw the pictures of the stunt pattern in the sky.

I had it out this spring before my tendinitis started and it flew just like it always does only with an Orwick in it now. It is a toss up which one fly's it the best. No matter what is in it it is always fun to fly. It actually started out with a Fox 59 that did OK, but it fly's much better and steadier on the sparkers. It is still remarkable to me that an airplane that weighs 64 ounces and has 850 square inches of wing can fly as well as it does. And for being almost 20 years old still has the original silkspan covering and dope finish.

I am still so humbled by all of the things I have won at VSC. There are so many great flyer's that can fly circles around me. (pun intended). Those years I will cherish the rest of my life and have this wonderfull engine plaque that you made to remind me. It hangs on the wall where I see it everyday to remind me of those years.

It is people like you that promote the hobby that are the greats, and behind the scenes doing what needs to be done. I am just a hacker that loves to build and fly control line with sparkers.

                                                                           Food Acquisition and Preparation

Colleen Gilbert was in charge of the food. The out of town MMG's supplied the desserts for all three days,  set up the tables in the clubhouse, and cleaned the clubhouse. They are: Linda Gleason, Sheila Cranfill, Janice Stokey, Edie Oliver, Nan Beavers, and Stella Hill.

Friday , September 25: Friday night at the Gilbert's was Italian night; lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, salad, and bread. desserts were provided by the out of town MMG's. ( Linda Gleason, Sheila Cranfill, Janice Stokey, Edie Oliver, , Nan Beavers, and Stella Hill )

Saturday September 26:Lunch served at the field was  mexican vegetable soup, ham and turkey sub sandwiches, cornbread and desserts. (desserts supplied by the out of town MMG's)

Sunday September 27: Lunch served at the field was potato soup, chicken salad sandwiches, cornbread, and desserts. (Again, desserts supplied by the out of town MMG's)

Pat Reeves supplied donuts for both days.

Tom Martin supplied the chips.

Lew Woolard was spotted sweeping the clubhouse floor! We had heavy dew both mornings, and a lot of grass got tracked in.

                                                                                          Awards

Bob Reeves designed a computer program to make cheap awards. The awards consist of a background that a picture of the award winner is electronically placed on. Elwyn Aud takes the pictures, and Bob places the pictures on the background, and prints them with a color printer. The cost of the awards is very low, and we never have awards left over. The main cost is the 5"x7" picture frames, which we buy at the dollar store.

This process requires a computer, a printer, and electricity. Fortunately we have a clubhouse with electricity, an air conditioner, a heater, and running water.

We fly on Bob and Patty Reeves property. We are very lucky.

                                                                                  The raffle

Tom Martin and Jerry Neafus run our raffle; a lot of our contest money comes from  there. Club members and Contestants donate the  raffle prizes. Years ago, manufacturers used to donate merchandise, but over the years the donations have slowly gone away.

I was about thiiiiiiisssssss close to making the trip for the contest, but not having any extra vacation time to help with the drive made me rule it out at the last minute. It's six hours for me to the Tulsa area. If I left right after work, it would be wee hours in the morning when I got to a hotel and might not have been in the best shape to fly Saturday. Coming home that far on Sunday afternoon/evening would have made a real difficult rise and shine for work Monday. The change to the new job and day shift has been a real chore and I'm really just starting to get back on an even keel after six months. I have always wanted to attend a Gluedobbers contest, but something always gets in the way. Next year I hope to be in a much better place physically and mentally and model wise! Drive down Friday morning, practice a bit, fly the event Saturday and Sunday, drive home Sunday afternoon/evening, and sleep in Monday morning!
One reason I was really considering the trip was to meet up with Andre Ming. I have know Andre now for 15 years or so, as a member of one of the best vintage dirt bike groups there is on the internet, The VINDURO Group, which favors vintage enduro and ISDT (International Six Day Trials) types of motorcycles. Andre is wicked fast in the wood when he's on a vintage scoot! When I joined his group, I saw his email address and Yahoo ID had "Fox 36X" in it, and I could smell the castor and nitro coming from the screen! When we finally got to meet in person at an ISDT Reunion Ride competition, I got to ask him about his modeling history and he filled me in. I figured it would be a matter of time before he discovered Stunthanger, and I have been really enjoying reading his and other's posts about flying vintage combat models. Obe thing I have learned about Andre is that when he starts throwing the word "epic" around when describing an event, you know it's really IS going to be "EPIC"!! y1
Glad you guys had good weather and a great turn out. Next year for sure!

Hi Dan!

It's cool that you hang out here and that we have a couple of common interests: Enduro motorcycles and C/L!

It would really be great if you could make it to the Gluedobbers September contest next year.  Would be a hoot to get to fly airplanes together as well!

Speaking of flying... going to be at the TGB field tomorrow for a meeting n' fun fly following.  Think you could make down here in time??  n~

Thanks for the great pictures and event summaries. Working Saturday makes it impossible to go many places.

I really appreciate seeing complete event summaries that include the airplane and the engine.

Good job guys.
