I recently bought one of these kits and was wondering whom amongst you built these and if you have any pictures of the finished product. Was also curious about any modifications I should make. I had one way back when but a 3 yr old step daughter through no fault of her own fell on it and..... as in the commercial of the little boy walking on the fresh cement I just picked her up gave her a hug and bit my lip.

Leester, I built that kit many years ago. The kit flew very well, but not for long. Those shells do not give enough glue area to hold that nose together. The instructions though did say to either fiberglass or silkspan entire model. I of course saw this way after the model was built. I tried to triangulate pieces from the motor mounts back to the #1 firewall. This helped but it made the vibes move back to former#2. The cracks then started to form back at the wing joint. Knowing what I know now, I surely would've made a better model. I had a Fox.35 in mine which really worked well until the shakes started than it was obvious all the way down the lines. I feel the stab is too small but it did work on my model. I think I would make it larger anyhow due to the need of having to add tail weight anyhow. Maybe by chance a modern LA.25 would be a much better choice. I do have another kit and always thought about making another. I was going to build it using the traditional constructions of 1/8 balsa sides and 1/16th doublers. The wing is a good choice and I recall that the kit gives you a extra rib. I may have compared it to the Flite Streak rib which I believe it was close in airfoil. While teaching my son to fly early on, I let him fly this plane which he did real well with until it got caught by a head wind on landing. All I can say it was looking like a puzzle that was opened up and spilled on the ground. The plane does have a nice sporty look to it . Ken

I built mine in the early 80s. I still have the box; I use it for balsa peices parts! I built her as per plan and she flew very well. I was a rank amateur at the time so if it had bad habits I would have thought they were due to my bad flying ability. She met an early demise, but not to any design flaw....unless you can say that my bad flying was a design flaw! LOL I'd build another if I could, she was a very good looking ship.

Curiously enough I am in correspondance at the moment as to who designed this model? Also the similar P40 in the series. Anyone know? And the date it was released?

My plans say it was designed by: Jim Davis and Product design by: Sid Axelrod. I see no date on the plans. Thanks Ken and Glenn.

Hi,
I have the P-40 Tiger Shark Kit and I couldn't find a date on her. She's not a very big kiit kinda small even for a 35, maybe a fox?? I'm going to sell it just not sure how much to ask for her??? Looks like a nice kit just to small for me. Gary

I had seen one fly very well i Junior back in the 60's at the Nats. I told the kid I had a kit of it and his dad told me to make the stab and elevator bigger. I still have the kit!

They had to hae been in 69 or early 70's as far as production. My brother Bob had the P-40 with McCoy .19 for power. He loved it as it not too big. H^^

This would be critical from the Brit category question. '69 is our cut-off date for Classic. Anyone got anything definite?

That date has to be close Doc.
The one I have is from Hobby Shop that closed in mid 70s and it had been on the shelf several years at the time of closing.
For some reason mine came out looking like a Shoestring( love Shoestrings.)
Can be built VERY light.
I added flaps.
With an O.S. .35s its fast and nose heavy. about 2oz tail weight.
The old O.S. .25 that looks like the .35s would have been a better choice of power.
I have an un-built P-40 so when I get a minute will look for a date.
