arf nobler cowl
« on: July 12, 2014, 10:12:27 AM »

Guy's what method are you using to get the cowl to fit the engine, Brodak 40 in this instance, I have to cut out for needle, glow plug and all other openings.

What I really need to know is how, and where do you get your measurements to get the proper fit.

I don't want to "butcher" up the cowl..

 Thanks

I make cardboard (Manila folder material) cutouts......

Mount the engine and fit a cutout to the head. Tape it in place so it can be folded back out of the way of the cowl. Remove the engine, put the cowl in place and cut out the cowl. (This assumes the cowl is properly fitted with the engine is place) Do the same procedure for the exhaust and NV.

Good luck, Jerry

Gil, bit late,

But I think the OEM cowl is more trouble than it is worth. After you check the engine mounts as solid and straight, you can brace them against the ply firewall and put sides of ~ 1/8 balsa outside, block above and as much as you want below to make a balsa cowl. TF Monokote (was it Sapphire Blue?) is a match to the kit skin.

A bit of work, but familiar practice, and it won't look like a poorly done band-aid add-on kludge.

Just sayin'
