One of my work buddy's Subaru daily driver is running around with no head gaskets, but JB-Weld (squeezed down to the requisite dimension) and bolts. Need to rebuild it? Too bad, get a new one.

JB Weld is often used on model engine mufflers. It holds up well in this application. It is not "forever" because liberal application of heat (from a hot air gun) will loosen JB Weld in case you need to break the bond.

I seem to get very mixed results with JB Weld (original formula) on mufflers adding pressure taps or repairing leaks. Sometimes it just goes soft when run and falls apart other times it seems to harden with successive uses and stays good. I used to pre-harden it in a cool oven (212F or 100C) Araldite epoxy for the hour recommended with good results.
Interesting looking at the spec sheet for there general epoxy to see how temperature and age affect strength over time and Methanol degrades it see :
