Can anyone suggest a site or a good kit for an inexperienced builder abut how and where to get the best tempest kit?
the only place i found that even has the tempest is RSM but according to some people, this is a hard model to build and also RSM don’t give you good instruction or step by step.
i am sure in love with this model and whiling to take my risk.

Hi Perry,

AFAIK, RSM is the only one doing the Tempest.  How hard it is to build actually will depend on how much building you have done.  Mostly it is built like any of the other similar planes.  The lead outs are shown differently, but you can do them the standard way if you cannot figure out how to do them as per the plans.

Which Tempest design do you wish to build.  Randy Smith also has a design by that name, I've had 2 and they fly very well.  Not sure if he still has kits or not, might want to contact him.

I knew which one you were referring to when you said "RSM kit".  Eric doesn't sell Randy's planes that I know of.

Randy Smith's Tempest is a large, piped designed model.

Hi Bill. so nice to get responds from you.
i saw the plan that RSM gives with the kit and for sure it wont be possible for me build it. all my building was on profile. i know for sure if someone had a step by step kit? i would be able to do it.
i guess if i can not find it? then i will take my chances and go with the RSM.

There are a lot of great modelers in the LA area that I'm sure would be willing to give you help on building the Tempest.  Call Eric and ask him to recommend a couple that you might contact locally.
Join PAMPA and you would have a list of all the stunt fliers in you area...In the world, for that matter.
Of course you can move to Tucson AZ and I or a dozen others would be happy to help you with it

Just my two cents: I'd suggest putting the "Tempest" aside for a future project. As this is your first built up model a building guide is verrrrry helplful. Go with an RSM Lark to start and follow the excellent building guide that is on the RSM web site under "Things of Interest". It is also an excellent flying plane.

As an alternative, consider the Brodak kits, all of which include printed and illustrated building guides. The "Oriental" in particular is a good choice for a first built up stunter.  If you are not in a big hurry, Blue Sky Models will soon be coming out with the "Hobo" which is specifically designed as a first built up plane. Should be worth the wait.

One of the best typo's I've seen in a while.

I built a Tempest last year from the RSM kit. Not the easiest plane to do if you haven't a lot of building experience. It was a great kit with excellent wood and I would recommend buying one, but put off building it untill you have a few simpler planes under your belt. The construction is fairly straight forward, but the shaping of the tail and cowl areas are kinda tricky.

Yes, the larger one is called the Tempest II.  I have one ready to finish right now.  If memory serves it's close to 700 sq in.  PA65 and pipe.

Hi Ed,

I for got that Randy DOES have a few .35-.40 size models!    There is a .35 size SV-11 IIRC.  These are not the series of Shrike, Satana, etc., which were drawn for a PA .40 and pipe. (which are great flying models, too!)

Tempest II by Dave Heinzman...

Pictures without cowl are with new PA-.61, which Dave says brought the plane to life so that he now really enjoys flying it.

i have seen the picture that Serge posted.
nice plane but for sure it ain't looking like the Tempest i like.

you all have a point and it is best to start with something easy with instruction and then go with the more advanced kits.
