Title: tee shirt weather test flights
Post by: RC Storick on December 14, 2014, 03:13:03 PM
Today was a big success for me. Got to the field about one hour before everyone else. I test ran the Super Tiger .46 that was given to me at Brodaks last year. A little hard starting at first. Could be because of temperature or older fuel. Not sure none the less got the needle set and went down to RC area to wait for CL guys to show.

Got set up and started the engine. I adjusted it a little and walked to the handle. After six laps all felt good so I started a short pattern every this less the RO and over heads. Next flight was a complete pattern with spotters on the outside to see if I had anything wrong.

It fly's great right off the bench. Good lap speed and line tension. CG is right on sharp corners and smooth rounds. I must say I like flying the smaller classic airplanes much more than the lumber wagons.

I might start another Continental as a back. Pictures to follow

My pics just went your way Bob.

Guys, it flies as good as it looks! Straight as an arrow out on the lines, no bad habits as far as I could see. Excellent for the first two flights of a brand new model. I have always thought his "modern" Continental presented very well and so does the "original." Engine run was pretty sweet. Just needs some handle time to fine tune it and get used to it. The painted prop looks really neat, sitting still or spinning!

And I just remembered, Bob, I have seen your Minado, at our contest in September. I've slept a few times since then!
    Type at you later,

I just hope and it is a super long shot this plane inspiers at least one younger person as it did me. It left a indelible impression in my mind for 45 years.

What is the wing span & area of that bird ?   Also the recommended engine range.

Around 630-650 and engine size is .35 to 46 if you build it light.

That's nice, Robert, but here's a suggestion on how you could spiff it up.  I'm sure Derek would agree:

Thrilled you got the Continental up and had a successful maiden flight. Been following the build so feel a bit connected to it somehow.

Looked good as you built it and looks even better once you got it outside. Hope to see it fly one day- I mean in person!

We'll just keep an eye on the weather report weekend to weekend. As long as it's above freezing, sunny and no wind, I'm up for a couple quick flights! There was somebody on the circle today when I went by on my way to work today but couldn't see who it was.
Let's see how it goes and what Mother Nature throws at us.
