Back in the air!!
« on: August 27, 2018, 09:47:45 PM »
Got my first flight today after the destruction of my Shoestring Stunter a few weeks ago.   The rebuilt hand me down Cosmic Wind flew!   It flew rather well, in fact!  Stable but very responsive. CG seemed perfect.

I had recently learned one of my issues was far too much elevator deflection. Between talking to Mark and watching Shug's interesting video with cameras on the plane, I understand better how little is really needed. I had replaced the elevator with a slightly larger one, and gave it 20 deg max deflection.  Was quite sufficient. Looped quite well.

Only had time for one flight, but it was great. The OS 20FP was quite up to the task of powering the 400sq in/ 34 oz plane. (Just slightly more than the SS's 385/32).

Dane, can't thank you enough for the engine work. It ran perfectly.
Between Mark, Shug and Dane I'm back in the air!

Shug, it was that video of yours with the cameras on the plane, one of them showing the control surfaces in flight.  I was quite fascinated to watch in real time how little they actually move in flight.  That was very informative to me.
I've never been the guy that learned real well the way most people learn. I've always got to find something, usually something odd or abstract, that makes that synaptic connection happen. Frequently this has been to the frustration of those trying to help me who think I'm not listening to them, when in reality i am but I haven't really figured out to understand what they are saying.
Your video made that connection for me.

THATS what you did!!

Gary, sounds like what the old DOC is going through, comprehension of the American language.   Never did perfect the English version. HB~>
