For me, it was a bit of a whirlwind event. We drove up from Las Vegas. There were several accidents on the 99N so it took a lot longer than it should have to arrive. No practice for me yesterday (Friday). But, everyone was extremely receptive to a complete stranger. This contest is a VERY well run event by very experienced individuals. Big thanks to Walt Giho and Doug Barton.
I learned a lot. A lot lot. I even got to fly Brett's Skyray. It's like getting slapped with a brick, the difference in a correctly set up aircraft vs. say, mine. I did well enough to justify the time I've spent trying to learn the pattern!

Looks like it was fun!
Dave
PS--I get "trimmed" like that all the time. That's why my wallet is always empty....

Hey I see you got a third in the .25 event. Congrats. Nothing beats getting out and getting experience and help. H^^

Hi Dane,
It was good to meet you and your lovely wife.......... Reminds me of me and mine when I was your age! y1 Only I was into RC Glider competition.
I hope you guys can make the "Meet & Meat". It's a real hoot watching the Fox 15 hurl on Sunday. Oh, and the flying is good too!
But, Larry's Chili is the best!
That's me waving to you in the shade tent.
Cheers, Jerry

It is quite the eye-opener, isn't it?

I offered Brett $20 and my primary force for his Skyray.

Jerry, Kristina said she had a great time hanging with the "shade tent cartel". She said you guys were hilarious. Thanks for hanging out with us. We had a fantastic time.

Dane...What was your route? I looked on Google Maps and their #1 route was 99 from Bakersfield clear to Woodland. I would NEVER do that. Go across to I-5 and spend as little time as possible on 99, or go up to Reno and across Donner Pass on I-80. Google says it a few minutes longer that way, but it'd be easier to make up some time, IF you know what I mean. ;) ;) ;)
Good to see that Lanny Shorts and Bob Duncan are still circulating! y1 Steve

Turned out to be "Brett's lose-by-half-a-point" trimming method. My 5th 596.5, and subsequent loss.

Ted Fancher's plane.
Thanks for the pics. Really like Ted's Shoestring, very nicely done. What engine?
-
Steve,
That's exactly the way we went. Lol. I grew up in bakersfield and wanted to show Cake my old stomping grounds. My grandpa and I traveled up and down the 99 countless times. We used to clear out orchards so folks could start new rows, then we'd cut up the wood and stack chords to sell as fire wood. We jumped in the car and Cake asked if I needed a map. Nope! I know that freeway quite well! It was actually fun for us. Made some stops along the way.
Wayne, I'm not sure what engine. I think it was an FP 20-25 but I'm not positive. All I know is it was the lightest plane on the pull test sheet. I asked if I could pick it up just to feel the lightness!
