Technical[icon]Question
« on: December 05, 2009, 05:14:25 AM »
I have had this site saved in my favorites for nearly 2 years now....I put a shortcut on my desktop. My question is: why is there no icon...all my other website shortcuts have their own icon. I scabbed one in(a star) and it worked for a long time, now it will only stay for a couple clicks then disappears. I tried an airplane icon I downloaded, and it does the same thing. What is the icon for this site, and how do I get it ??? ::)

John,

Not a specific answer to this problem, but you might check out the Favicon add on for your browser. It allows you to use whatever you want for site icons. Also, there is a free online utility you can use to create icons. Google favicon..

Hope it helps.

Yeah, I used it to put a star on my shortcut, but just recently something has been happening and it goes to a white script looking icon everytime I click it. I even downlopaded an airplane which only stayed one day.....next morning back to that white postage stamp. All the rest of my shortcuts keep just fine. This is the only one, I even ran superAV on this site to see if something had attached, but nothing. ???

I checked it out, and see the same thing happening. I even changed the URL link on the icon  to http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php?board=4.0 and it still reverts to the same miserable generic icon. Deleting it and creating a new one made no difference.I experimented with more desktop icons and the stay just fine.Has to be a server setting or something else, but nothing I can find in the admin tools....maybe Robert can shed some light on this.Even though he is "Just a Mechanic", he built a pretty good website!

I don't know it works on the site end, never had a reason to research it. The site icon is something the web site has to send. If it isn't set up on the web site you will see the generic icon and as you discovered you are stuck with it.

Kept messing with it and wound up with a gold picture frame over a white block......don't know what that means, but it's staying so far. Too bad it aint an airplane or something. H^^
