Sure am glad I checked!
« on: August 29, 2009, 05:07:23 PM »
Tomorrow is a practice session. I decided today to do my maintenance on my SV100. This plane has been flying very well. I turned it over and took off the cowl. I was just going to touch up some paint work. Got to looking close and I noticed my tank and a wear mark in the bottom. It is close inside there but I did not remember it that close. So I took out the pipe and engine. What had happened on the last flight in Muncie was the tank had become loose and slid down onto the header coupler and almost wore a hole through the plastic.

Fortunately I had bought a new one when I was in Muncie last week. So I changed tanks and cleaned out the engine bay, a new filter was added and everything checked.

Hopefully the engine run will be the same tomorrow as it was last week, If not I don't have a lot of tinkering time left before the team trials.

It's nice to catch these things before the crash, instead of after.

25 hr., 50 hr., 100 hr., and annual inspections are done on full scales. Incorporating some of these inspections on the scale of our models, will catch things "before the big one" happens. :'(

Nice catch Robert!  Those mufflers/headers get hot fast, I notice while i'm fiddling with the needle before I take off.
