TEAM contest at McMinnville, OR
« on: August 26, 2007, 09:38:27 PM »
This was a really fun time with a pretty good turnout. I took a bunch of pictures but they will have to wait. As Pat Johnston put it, it's Beer League time. I'm all  in. But I did want to say that this is a premier site next to the avation museum with an absolutely gorgeous camping site. Even has bathrooms with showers! Can't beat that with a stick. Classic and Profile on Saturday and PA on Sunday. Decent weather (though the weather report had called for rain), it was hot and sunny on Friday and Saturday and just some passing clouds on Sunday. No wind to speak of and that claimed a couple of planes. Wake turbulence is evil. But all and all, a very fun event.

And Congradulations to Mark Scarborough! First in Sportsman profile and in Intermediate. The boy is moving up in the world.

Randy
Thanks for noticing,, lol um except it was only third in sprotsman profile,,, Now if I hadnt run out of fuel on my second flight and buried the Gee Bee AGAIN *$^%&$((*#&^, I may have had something for Haverly, But it was nice to have a good flight in Intermidiate,, Hope they dont roust me up into Advance to soon,,, Dont think I am quite there yet! but soon. I to had a blast, what a phenomenol site to have a contest! the Ambiance,, (hos ya like that word guys!) flying with all thehistory around, man,,,,
Hey Randy, think we could make a stunter out of the Mig,, man what a sexy airplane! I really wish you and Pat were closer by, I learn SO SO much flying with you two, and all the other great guys in the NW too,, Highlights,, Friday impromptu Spaghetti feed with sauce (reportedly world famous?) supplied by Pat Johnston. Breakfast under the trees waiting for practice time to start, then eating eggs and bacon with the aroma of castor wafting by,, sigh. But for me, the real thriller and chiller, Pat teaching my 14 Year old Daughter to fly, she soloed on Pats Ringmaster totally take off and landing (a greaser I might add) on her third flight! then proceeded to put in two more. She is now threatening that i cant go flying without her anymore,, WO HOOOOOO. We talked about flying for about half of the 8 hour trip home . What a thrill, thanks Pat,, Oh and Randy, my head finally quit hurting from smackin it tryin to save the GB,, (Or is it hurting  cause I missed the "signal "from the engine?) Ah well it will fly again.
For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!

Mark,

OK. For some reason I thought you won sportsman, but on reflection, I remember that it was a third. Hey, it's a place. More than I did.  :)

I'll try to get some pictures posted tonight.

Mike, we were hopeing that you would be there. What a great time! Ginny and I even managed to find a new way back, 22 miles longer than the usual route, but nearly 45 minutes quicker than going through the 'World's Longest Parking Lot"! You would have loved the contest! Gave out the lub's flyers about our contest. There seems to be some interest in attending.

One other note. Nils Norling came out to his first contest in more than a year. On his last flight (and the last flight of the day), he had a moment and forgot to do the reverse wingover. To bad, too. It was probably his best flight of the weekend, So, take an attempt and go again. On the second flight in the outside square, wake turbulence got him and he pancaked the Shark 45. This, while a shame anytime, was tough because that Shark has been around for a long time and may be one of the highest time planes around except maybe most any Paul Walker airplanes.

Sorry about that, Nils.

More campers this year added to the experience.  We're glad everyone had a good time.  I've never posted pictures here before but I'll try a few...

--John Thompson flew his new twin in profile stunt.
