2-part question actually:

a) What's a good target weight
b) What's the weight of your completed airframe alone ?

Hi, Terry.
I don't know what an "ideal" weight is but mine is 46 ounces ready to fly.
That's with the OK Super 60, Top Flite 12-8 wooden prop, aluminum spinner, two ounce metal tank, coil, condenser, switch and three AAA cells in a plastic holder.
It's a GREAT flyer.

ps - Federal law requires all Vikings to be spark ignition powered.

Hi Bob -

If I get a Viking, it'll fly with an ignition engine if my ignition engine will fly it!

Do you know your launch rpm with that prop?

Hi, Terry - I don't own a tachometer but years ago, someone tached the OK at 6600 RPM.

I have an original kit Viking and I used a LA .40 with factory muffler, APC prop, spinner, and the backplate filled with about 2.5 oz. lead. I don't remember the actual weight but it flies pretty good...plenty of wing on that one...

I lost out on a deal on a super cyke here in Vegas. I don't have any ignition engines so, i can't build a Viking. I believe this law was passed in early model aviation by the " Federal U Control Kakistocracy for Model Enthusiasts ".....

Dane, there are MUCH worse things than no Viking to fly that can happen to a fellow due to the shenanigans of that bunch!

I believe they're the ones who caused me to destroy my O&R .60.

I was all set to go back to the shop, take down my Viking and weigh it complete with all the necessaries when Zambelli posts his Well Horned Viking complete with"Lead Outs"!!!!! I couldn't stop laughing so much so that my wife had to come up stirs and see why her old man was having so much fun! Well I showed her Bob's Second Viking rendition and she had a fine laugh as well! I said "So there you Stunt Guys really do have senses of humor"! This just might be one of the top spots of the Year!

Hi Terry, I got my Viking out this evening and hung it up on the fish scale! It weighs 3#'s 2 Oz. with all of its accoutrements ready to go viz. Enya .45 6001, plastic spinner, 11 X 5 Pro Zinger prop, 4.5 oz metal tank, dural aluminum landing gear with Du bro diamond grid tires. Therefore its a bit porky at 50 oz.s! But it flies great in all kinds of weather! It also has a 1" tail wheel whose mount is held on with two blind nuts. This outfit flies very well and scores consistently well in OTS events! Its one of my favorite fun to fly out fits1 I use 62' eye to eye lines of .015 braids on a Brodak fully adjustable handle. The engine sports a stock strap on muffler with pressurized tank feeding 10 11/11 S & W fuel.

Dirty Dan had a Viking with a Fox .35 in it, maybe still does. I don't know for sure, but I'd expect 32 to 38 ounces. Dan always built pretty light. It was unfortunate that covering shrinkage caused the 1/16" ribs to get a bit wiggly near the TE. I'm guessing that it was MicaFilm. Maybe Dan will come along and state the facts?

Well, even though I did not graduate from Portland State University, they consider me an alumnus (at least for the purposes of hitting me up for money). I weigh 230 pounds when I'm being honest.

And my eldest son is currently attending there, and he weighs 130.
