Name that plane - Memory challenge
« on: March 15, 2013, 10:16:50 AM »
I have a wing left over from my crashed Sky Sport.  It has C-tube construction.

The challenge is to find an Old Time or Classic model I can scale down to use this wing in Leprechaun competition.  The model I would like to find is a profile with flaps.  The Tomahawk and Super Clown are nearly right, but they have unsheeted wings, so the construction is wrong.  A profile Oriental would be perfect if it is a Classic legal design.

Anyone out there have an answer?   ???

So far so good.  Anyone have a photo or 3-view?  I looked at some old Consolodated ads, but no luck.

OOPS! No points, guys.  I found a photo on e-Bay.  Nice sleek model, but it doesn't have flaps.  :(

The model must be a reasonably accurate scale (1:1 is OK) of an OT or classic design.  Unless the plane was done as a profile at the time, it isn't legal. Power by .061 or less. Only exception is .049 twins are allowed. Airfoil must be reasonably accurate, so a sheeted L.E. can't be substituted for an open structure.

Memory Huh,   When I was a kid I would look through the model magazines and study all the ships in there. While the one I am going to mention it one that I never saw still i remember it. It was called a Flip-Flap. I have a feeling that Mike will tell me more about it.

Kitted by NYC's "Master Modelcraft".  Spanned 24" and had operating flaps.

Keep trying, gang. The Flip-Flap has a solid balsa wing, not built-up.

I need a design that is OT or Classic legal, the wing has leading edge sheeting, flaps and is a profile model. As noted, if it were done in the classic era, a profile Oriental would fill the bill.

I remember hearing Dee Rice saying there were profile Orientals back in the day.  Someone had asked him about it.

I just received a note from Dee Rice that the profile Oriental is Classic legal! End of search. Thanks one and all.
