Old plane.
« on: March 31, 2018, 06:06:24 AM »
Several years ago a club member gave me a magazine with plans for this model. It's called the MI Bipe. MI stands for Mechanics Illustrated. It is designed for an engine with attached tank and didn't have much room for any other tank. I put a Fox .19 on it an it flew quite well for what it is.
I may be wrong but I doubt it.
I wouldn't take her to a dog fight even if she had a chance to win.

It seems like the actual name is MI Acrobat.
I might be wrong. The fuselage deck looks different.
Outerzone has the plan.

The interesting thing is that the article talks about
" room for the ignition system".
Maybe this would be eligible for Old Time. The plan
has a hand written note saying 1948.

Yup 1948 but the real name is MI Bipe. They probably changed it to sell the plans. It was an ignition engine plane. It was a difficult thing to build from scratch.

Cool Story! Looks a lot like a Flying Fool! I had one of the Sterling Models and it did fly most of the pattern but rather poorly! Mine was over powered by a Fox Rocket Red Head engine swinging a 9 X 6 prop with Missile Mist!

Just a heads up, there is a set of plans for this airplane on eBay right now, original Mechanix Illustrated plans. Might pick them up myself, but would defer to anyone else that wants them more.
