My neighbor flew his plane to Alaska just so he could say he done it. Can't remember the city, but he said the runway was between the river and the town. Cross wind landings were normal. He said they helped him change wheels while there so he could see more of Alaska.

Diffrent versions of story running around.
Jim Bourke/Real flight simulator(?) Praticed this on sim program. With better video the tail wheel is the giveaway, and something else forgot.

The one-wing landing has been debunked for some time now. Here's about as clear an explanation of what's wrong with the video as I've seen. The tail wheel is just one of many flaws. For starters, the wing separation is WAY too clean to be a full scale plane.

I am pretty sure you are right. I am also pretty sure the landing itself is real. Well done, even if it is "only" a R/C aircraft.

There is a series on one of the discovery channels in the UK about bush pilots in Alaska at the moment, there was one scene where a pilot had to rescue some guys who had got stranded way out in the wilderness. The only landing area was more suited to a Harrier but the pilot bought it in over a river dragging the wheels through the water to kill his speed before dropping it right on the shoreline. It all seemed very "Matter of fact" and "Hey, well it was the only way in". Amazing. y1 The take off was much like the one in Larry's video, get it airborne and then level out at 10ft and get some airspeed over the river before climbing out. I guess those that can do and those that can't just talk about it. A bit like the interviews you see with War Vets, It's almost like they don't appreciate the talent or bravery they display, me? I'm just left in stunned admiration. n~

Is it a short landing, if you are test flying an F-18 Hornet, a valve in the control system fails when you are in a vertical dive, and you eject at 15,000 feet going about 550mph?

Wish there'd been a windsock in the background. That sort of stuff is not so tough in a 40mph wind, and there's plenty of that in AK.
Dad said he once flew an Aeronca C-2 in a stiff wind. It took off backwards and landed backwards, he said. Can't imagine that being much fun. :o Steve

Back around 1959, I was out at the airport in Electra, TX, trimming out a new free flight. There was a guy in a Cessna shooting landings, He would come around, line up with the runway and land. Then taxi a bit and take off again, all looking very smooth. Two Aeronca crop-dusters came in low, perpendicular to the runway. They lifted over the electric wires, stalled onto the runway, turned left and taxied into the nearby hanger. I was amazed by the crop-dusters, and pleased to have seen the contrast between the two approaches to landing.
